Basic Functions

This is a continuous recruitment for an applicant pool to fill part-time faculty (up to 67%) or temporary substitute assignments on an as needed basis.


We accept applications on a continual basis.

Departments or Divisions will refer to the pool of applications on file, as needed, to fill in temporary assignments.

Applicants will remain in the pool for 12 months.

Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS in accordance with Title 5, Section 53412, Minimum Qualifications for Instructors of Noncredit Courses:

Bachelor's degree in English, literature, comparative literature, composition, linguistics, speech, creative writing or journalism OR Bachelor's degree in any discipline and twelve semester units of coursework in teaching reading.

§ 53412. Minimum Qualifications for Instructors of Noncredit Courses. Except as provided elsewhere in this article, the minimum qualifications for service as a faculty member teaching a noncredit course shall be the same as the minimum qualifications for credit instruction in the appropriate discipline, or as follows: (c) For a noncredit basic skills course in reading and/or writing, either: a bachelor's degree in English, literature, comparative literature, composition, linguistics, speech, creative writing, or journalism; or a bachelor's degree in any discipline and twelve semester units of coursework in teaching reading.

Must have sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

The number of part-time faculty hired varies from semester to semester, depending upon the needs of the department. Your application will be maintained in this part-time faculty pool for 12 months.

Applicants with foreign transcripts must have transcripts evaluated for U.S. equivalency by one of the following agencies. Open the link below for a list of agencies that have been approved by the Commission on Teacher Credentialing to provide evaluation of college or university course work completed at an institution in a country other than the United States: https://www.ctc.ca.gov/credentials/commission-approved-foreign-transcript-evaluating-agenciesThis evaluation must be completed and submitted prior to your application being included in the application pool. A copy of the evaluation must be attached to each application package. Please note there is a fee for the evaluation service.
