TheStatewide Targeted Reductions in Intimate Partner Violence (STRIVE) Initiative is focused on reducing domestic violence by bringing together prosecutors, police, probation departments, and community organizations in targeted counties to create specific plans by holding perpetrators accountable and ensuring survivors receive support and trauma-informed care.
Job Summary: Reporting to the STRIVE Coordinator,the STRIVE Advocate will comply with all of the Victims Assistance Center’s personnel policies and protocols and maintains confidentiality at all times. The STRIVE Advocate will be flexible in order to ensure 24/7 coverage that includes but is not limited to on call days, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays and may be comprised of daytime, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- To respond to crisis calls with local law enforcement agencies in order to provide all forms of advocacy and direct services that include, but are not limited to, New York State Office of Victim Services compensation information and application assistance, counseling and information to clients about their legal rights at the time of the incident.
- To arrange for transportation to appropriate destinations such as Safe Shelter for clients.
- To provide the Danger Assessment and appropriate scoring for clients
- To provide safety planning for clients
- To maintain accurate and timely client progress notes and information in case records and maintain statistical data as required.
- To assist in client intake procedures and follow up guidelines
- To perform other related duties as directed by the STRIVE Coordinator.
- STRIVE Advocates will carry a case load of clients and assist them which appointments such as Family Court or Criminal Court appearances.
Job Requirements:
- Must exercise a non-judgmental, client-centered approach in working with clients.
- Must have knowledge of child development, crisis intervention and counseling techniques.
- Must have a valid New York State Driver's License with good driving record and have access to a reliable insured vehicle.
- Must have the ability to follow oral and written directions.
- Must possess familiarity of community resources.
- Must be able to be flexible with own work schedule to meet program and coverage needs.
- Must be organized, resourceful, flexible, have good assessment skills, and able to utilize good independent judgment in dealing with situations that arise.
Required Minimum Education/Experience:
- High School Diploma/GED required.
- Experience in human services, victim’s services issues; criminal justice or related fields are a plus.
- Must be able to travel out-of-town for training or other work-related purposes on occasion.
- Must have a valid driver’s license with clean driving history.
- Must have a reliable vehicle that can be utilized for work.
- Must maintain personal automobile insurance with a liability coverage limit of $100,000/$300,000.·
- Must submit to and pass a criminal background check and child abuse background check.
