JOB SUMMARY:
The Cutting Machine Operator prepares fabric, leather, and webbing materials for production by spreading, nesting, and cutting components used in the manufacturing process. This role works as part of a team to operate spreading machines, manual die cutters, and clicker press equipment to efficiently cut materials while minimizing waste and ensuring quality standards are met.
Qualifications:JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Spread and lay up fabric and other materials onto the cutting table using spreading machines or manual methods

Calculate material layouts and measurements for work orders
-
Cut fabric, leather, and webbing to supply sewing operators
-
Operate spreading machines used in the cutting process
-
Use manual die cutters and clicker press equipment to cut leather and webbing pieces using specific dies
-
Nest cutting patterns and position dies efficiently to maximize material yield and minimize waste, especially when cutting leather

Load and unload materials on rolls; most lifts are performed as a two-person team lift
-
Inspect fabric before cutting and tag defects when identified
-
Inspect cut parts for defects and quality issues
-
Accurately complete all documentation related to work orders, including material issuance, transfers, and tracking the disposition of waste and scrap in accordance with company procedures.

Work collaboratively with team members during spreading and cutting operations that require two-person coordination

Maintain clean work areas and equipment

Assist team members and other departments when needed

Perform additional duties, complete special projects, and assume additional responsibilities as assigned

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

Prior experience spreading and cutting fabrics, leather, or similar materials preferred

Experience operating spreading machines, manual die cutters, or clicker presses preferred

High School diploma or equivalent preferred
SKILLS/ABILITIES:
-
Strong math and analytical skills to calculate material layouts, measure usage, and track production for work orders.

Ability to monitor material inventory, including transferring remaining materials and documenting scrap or waste.

Ability to follow detailed oral and written instructions

Strong attention to detail when inspecting materials and finished parts

Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Ability to maintain accurate production counts and records

Ability to operate manual cutting equipment and spreading machines

Ability to follow patterns and cutting layouts to reduce material waste

Ability to maintain standard productivity rates
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Frequent reaching, bending, and twisting

Ability to regularly lift and handle material rolls up to 50 pounds (most lifting performed as a two-person team lift)
