What are the responsibilities and job description for the 1st Shift Production Tooling Technician, $20/hr+ BOE, 7a-3p position at VIBRACOUSTIC?
The primary responsibility of the Mold Repair Technician is to install, remove, repair and maintain molds and other tooling for production operations; manage spare part and tooling inventory, and support internal and customer qualification requirements for tooling. Position may require overtime on Saturdays as needed to complete mold changes. NOTE: Attendance is critical in this position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
1. Responsible for the assembly and disassembly of tools to facilitate on-time achievement of tool change schedules. This involves the installation, removal and exchange of tool cavities from carriers as well as the ability to run and cycle the production lines.
2. Following mold changes, ensures molds are disassembled as applicable, cleaned and stored for easy retrieval and reassembly.
3. Will lead mold repair activities to ensure tools function correctly while in production. May repair, replace or modify molds, sockets, frames and heads as required to achieve desired tool performance. Damaged components will be replaced. Basic fabrication, welding and grinding of components will be required to fabricate brackets, carrier sub-assemblies, fixturing, and prototypes.
4. To maintain equipment uptime and output, routinely checks tooling stations at production lines for tools that have been removed for repair or replacement. Will spend at least 1 shift per week on a critical line checking tools for damaged components, parts wearing out, leaks and other defects and will make the necessary repairs or replace the tool.
5. Working with other mold technicians, maintains an electronic records of all active tooling and spare parts including those in storage.
6. Ensures that tools removed from production equipment are properly cleaned and repaired before being returned to storage locations. May be asked to support production with tool cleaning at the lines as needed.
7. Coordinates with supervisor and other personnel to properly archive non-active tools to ensure they can be located quickly as needed for future production. Also coordinates the proper disposal of tools as well as return of tools to customers as outlined in contractual documents.
8. Will support the setup of new tooling and other engineering led projects. Provides support to PPAP and Run-at-Rate projects as required by engineering and customers.
9. Will communicate with multiple team members including operators, supervisors, other mold technicians, maintenance and engineering to facilitate the responsibilities listed above. Works with team members in a collaborative, respectful manner to provide assistance and guidance on tool maintenance including minor adjustments that can be made at the line as authorized by management.
10. Assists in the development and maintenance of tooling procedures; works with Human Resources on the development and maintenance of training checklists for new and cross-training employees.
11. Maintains log of tooling repairs and movement using available computer systems.
12. Performs required daily/weekly/monthly tooling checks. Over time, may be able to identify issues negatively impacting equipment performance or product/material scrap.
13. Maintains good housekeeping/5S at all times to ensure a clean, organized and safe work area. Will participate in VPS activities to improve flow and processes related to tooling.
14. May participate in problem solving activities or teams geared toward continuous improvement.
15. May update visual control boards or complete other production reports.
16. Performs necessary functions to adhere to ISO/TS 16949 and ISO 14001 standards.
17. Provides support as needed during site visits by customers, auditors and other guests.
18. Ensures compliance with all health, safety and environmental regulations in the workplace. Recognizes unsafe conditions and reports them immediately.
19. May be cross-trained on multiple machines or functions and will be expected to complete job-specific training as required.
20. Performs all other duties as may be assigned or required.
QUALIFICATIONS: High school education or GED preferred. 3-5 years’ production tooling/mold repair experience preferred. Must be able to operate production machinery. Position requires knowledge of machining, fixturing and welding.

Pay: $19.00 - $23.00 per hour
