What are the responsibilities and job description for the Tower Technician position at Viaero Wireless?
Industrial Communications West is proudly connecting people across the Midwest and Rocky Mountains. We construct turnkey communication facilities, co-locations and complete buildouts. Our experienced crews construct tower and network facilities for major PCS cellular carriers, private and public enterprises, and public safety agencies and utilities. Crews are based out of Grand Island, Nebraska, and we do not currently offer a rotation schedule.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Install, inspect, and maintain services for wireless radio and antenna systems on towers, rooftops, and other elevated structures
- Mount antennas, including panels and microwave dishes, run coax, apply connectors, scope fiber runs, and sweet test coax lines and jumpers
- Install tower equipment, including, but not limited to, masts, clamping, bracing, support, antennas, remote radio units, cabling, and bolting
- Complete antenna installation of RF and microwave parabolic dishes from 1 foot to 10 feet in size
- Troubleshoot RF and microwave systems
- Assemble structures such as monopoles, self-supports, and guyed towers
- Install power trunk lines
- Load, transport, and unload tools, materials, and equipment in a safe manner
- Support site cleanup and upkeep
- Ability to manage crew members when required
- Complete company required documentation
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements:
- High school diploma or General Education Degree (G.E.D.)
- At least 2 years of wireless telecom construction experience preferred
- Must be willing to reside within a daily commutable distance from the crew base
- Basic knowledge of knots and tower rigging
- Must have or obtain and maintain Authorized Climber & Competent Climber/Rescue certification from an accredited institution
- Ability to pull your own body weight, plus equipment weight, up vertical towers up to 500 feet for extended periods of time
- Preferred: OSHA 10, OSHA 30, First Aid and CPR
- Ability to travel away from home up to 75% of the time including weekends. Travel includes local or regional site travel
- Must have a valid driver's license, and the ability to pass pre-employment checks, which include a criminal background check, motor vehicle record check, and substance screening, following federal law
Skills:
- Computer and Microsoft Office proficiency (Word, Outlook, Excel)
- Ability to operate power tools and hand tools
- Proven ability to perform fiber and sweep testing
- Ability to operate aerial lifts, manlifts, telehandlers, and aerial platform equipment
- DC/AC electrical skills
- Have the ability to troubleshoot and correct mechanical or electrical connections
- Ability to read, comprehend, and carry out instructions
- Must have strong communication skills, both written and in person
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Ability to work long and unpredictable hours
Anticipated hourly pay for candidates with the required experience will be between $24 and $34. Candidates without at least 2 years of experience should anticipate a starting rate between $20 and $22 per hour.
