GES is seeking a Regional Safety Manager for our Safety department. This person will be responsible for the on-site event compliance, prevention, training, and investigations.
Compliance
Maintain current knowledge of all company safety policies and applicable federal and state OSHA regulations, as well as DOT standards and regulations. Instruct and advise Division/Department Managers in the safety codes that apply to their operations and to ensure that necessary safety procedures are established for compliance with the codes.
Ensure the functioning of safety programs within the assigned office/warehouse locations and at show/exhibition sites.
Work with Labor Relations to ensure enforcement of the Substance Abuse policy for both union and non-union employees.
Conduct periodic inspections of GES facilities and show sites, including the machinery, equipment and working conditions to ensure conformance with appropriate safety and sanitary standards and regulations.
Act as liaison with government agencies (e.g.: OSHA) and serve as a facility management representative in case of inquiries and inspections to correct deficiencies and to minimize citations and fines for non-compliance.
Monitor the availability and condition of appropriate fire-fighting and safety equipment in the facility. Act as liaison with companies servicing fire alarm systems and fire extinguishers and with the local fire department.
Program Development
Assist in the development of Best Practice and Training Modules as required.
Determine appropriate safety equipment and safe work practices to be employed on specific jobs based on OSHA and Corporate standards and implements accordingly through facility and show site management.
Assist with the development and maintenance of Facility Emergency Plans which shall designate specific individuals with specific responsibilities during emergency situations. The Emergency Action Plan shall also describe in detail all emergency actions and notifications to be made as a result of an emergency condition.
Prevention
Promote safe working conditions and practices aimed at reducing industrial injuries, illnesses, property damage, workers compensation, and general liability losses. Monitor and institute compliance programs.
Observe and analyze work force performance regarding safety and recommend specific measures, changes in procedures or amendments to safety programs.
Periodically participate in, and conduct, monthly safety committee meetings and ensure that coordinated safety training and motivational campaigns are conducted in association with Company policies.
Direct or participate in accident and near-miss incident investigations to determine causes. Make recommendations for corrective actions.
Collaborate directly with trade unions in order to promote safe working conditions and behaviors.
Training
Organize and coordinate prescribed training for all employees in safety-related fields.

Review, train and assist in the process of all accident reports, safety inspection reports, Safety Committee Meeting minutes and insurance claim reports. Work in conjunction with third party administrators.
Provide assistance to supervisors regarding the evaluation of safety problems, employee safety recommendations and complaints. Determine acceptable corrective measures.

Investigations
Participate in, and direct, incident investigations in compliance with company standards. Provide "on call" capability when necessary to participate/direct incident investigations.
Initiate and ensure investigations of accidents and unsafe working conditions, compiling statistical data and providing remedial actions to achieve effective prevention and avoidance of losses.
Perform other duties as assigned and deemed necessary of the position under the direction of management
Education/Experience:
College degree preferred
High School Graduate
Three (3) to five (5) years safety related experience
Union environment experience is preferred
Knowledge in DOT, EPA, OSHA and Cal/OSHA regulations preferred
Experience with Workers Compensation and associated claims preferred
Ensure high degree of confidentiality
Skills/Competencies:
Enforce compliance with company Substance Abuse Policy
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Proficient in MS Office and use of computers
Ability to cover show floor (either on foot or via cart) and visibly observe activity
Ability to present safety courses to a large group
Work Environment
Position requires extended hours due to the need for on-site availability at shows.
Position requires substantial travel within the area of responsibility and possible 25% travel to other US locations
Position will require being on-call
