Duties
- Develop and deliver comprehensive lesson plans covering medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and health information management principles.
- Teach students how to accurately perform CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD-9, ICD-10, ICD coding, HCPCS (Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System), and other medical billing procedures.
- Review clinical documentation for accuracy and completeness to ensure proper coding and billing compliance.
- Utilize Epic electronic health record systems to demonstrate real-world application of medical office software.
- Guide students through classroom activities, practical exercises, and assessments that reinforce coding accuracy and billing procedures.
- Provide constructive feedback on student performance, fostering a supportive learning environment that encourages professional growth.
- Stay current with industry updates, coding changes, and healthcare regulations to ensure curriculum relevance and accuracy.
Requirements
- Proven experience in medical office settings with a strong understanding of medical billing and coding processes.
- Prior classroom or adult education teaching experience with the ability to engage diverse learners effectively.
- Extensive knowledge of CPT, ICD-9, ICD-10, ICD coding systems, HCPCS codes, and documentation review techniques.
- Familiarity with Epic electronic health records or similar health information management software.
- Strong understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and healthcare documentation standards.
- Ability to develop structured lesson plans aligned with industry standards and educational best practices.
- Excellent communication skills with a passion for teaching and mentoring aspiring healthcare professionals.
