Estimator I-III

JOB PURPOSE:

Prepares bids and written proposals based upon specifications provided directly by the customer and/or from the Business Development Managers. This position requires the ability to handle multiple tasks to meet customer-mandated time schedules. Candidates with prior experience preparing estimates, developing bids or proposals, performing cost analysis, determining material and labor requirements, or supporting similar pre-construction/pre-project activities are most likely to be considered.

Estimator I

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assists in the bids and proposals process to estimate costs and prepares detailed written proposals and compliance matrices.
• Determines material quantities and labor required for total job cost. This is accomplished using tables and data established within the department and obtaining quotations from suppliers and/or subcontractors.
• Works with Purchasing to maintain accurate material costs on the shelter bid forms.
• Works with Human Resources to maintain accurate labor costs on the shelter bid summary sheet.
• Assists the Business Development Managers with follow-ups by phone on previous quotations submitted to the customer.
• Checks and confirms that customer specifications and purchase orders are in acknowledgement of written proposals.
• Performs other tasks as required from the Bids and Proposals Manager.

EDUCATION:

• 1 year certificate or Associate's degree
• 1-5 years of direct estimating experience

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Strong multi-tasking skills
• Excellent written and organizational skills
• Must have a high degree of professionalism and the ability to maintain confidential information
• Previous exposure in a construction, utility, substation, and/or data center environment
• Electrical and/or mechanical knowledge

Estimator II

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assists in the bids and proposals process to estimate costs and prepares detailed written proposals and compliance matrices.
• Demonstrates familiarity or exposure to estimating data-center projects, including general awareness of redundancy strategies (N/N 1/2N), UPS and battery systems, busway distribution, high-density electrical layouts, and common customer standards within the data-center sector.
• Brings working knowledge or exposure to industrial electrical systems, including experience or coordination with MCCs, switchgear, transformers, VFDs, and other process-related equipment. This may include estimating support, project coordination, or similar involvement, along with a general understanding of industrial specifications and project sequencing.
• Demonstrates familiarity with three-phase power systems and higher-voltage electrical distribution commonly used in utility, industrial, and data-center environments, including general awareness of system layouts, equipment coordination, and safety considerations.
• Reads and interprets one-line wiring diagrams to determine equipment needs for estimate.

Estimator III

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assists in the bids and proposals process to estimate costs and prepares detailed written proposals and compliance matrices.
• Reads and interprets one-line wiring diagrams to determine equipment needs for estimate.
• Reviews project specifications and drawings, builds clarifications and exceptions, and calls out discrepancies based on experience.
• Determines material quantities and labor required for total job cost. This is accomplished using tables and data established within the department and obtaining quotations from suppliers and/or subcontractors. 
• Assists with preparation of sales bid forms as needed.
• Works with Purchasing to maintain accurate material costs on the shelter bid forms. 
• Works with Human Resources to maintain accurate labor costs on the shelter bid summary sheet. 
• Assists the Business Development Managers with follow-up by phone on previous quotations submitted to the customer. 
• Checks and confirms that customer specifications and purchase orders are in acknowledgement of written proposals. 
• Operates with minimal supervision to execute all levels of complexity of bids and proposals.
• Maintains key customer knowledge and insight including customer standards, familiarity with previous key customer quote opportunities, and key customer expectations regarding scope, pricing, and lead time.
• Performs other tasks as required by the Bids and Proposals Manager or Lead Estimator.

• 5-7 years of direct estimating experience
