General Dynamics Mission Systems (GDMS) is seeking a Facilities Building Operations Technician. This position is for a self- directed technician responsible for overseeing all aspects of building/facility and operations infrastructure. Apply fundamentals and advanced knowledge of HVAC, electrical systems, generators, boilers, chillers, compressed/instrument air, filtering, ventilation, plumbing, computers, vacuum, hydraulics, pumps, pneumatics, equipment installation, and preventative maintenance.
Primary Responsibilities Include
Interpret, understand, and work from complex manufacturer’s documents such as electrical, electronic, pneumatic, and hydraulic schematics and mechanical drawings
Install new machinery including moving, leveling, piping, wiring, initial set up, initial performance tests and prove-in. Perform functional tests of the supporting utility services to verify their functionality before start-up
Perform equipment preventive maintenance including lubrication, adjustments, cleaning, inspection, calibration, and
performance verification
Troubleshoot and repair of all types of refrigeration systems, city and deionized water systems, compressed air systems, instrument air filtering systems, medium pressure boiler and steam systems, water treatment systems, electric generators, chillers, pumps, ventilation systems, pneumatic systems, mechanical systems, electrical systems, electronic systems, and operations software problems
Perform diagnostic techniques by utilizing mechanical and electronic measuring equipment in the absence of complete procedural information
Interface with Engineering, installation contractors, and manufacturers to perform refrigeration, water, boiler,
electrical and mechanical retrofits, modifications, and operational software changes Independently plan work assignments and perform duties with minimum supervision
Collaborate with functional personnel within and across organizations to resolve problems and recommend solutions based on trades knowledge
Perform other trades work as required by the needs of the business Undergo additional job-related training as designated by the Company
Accurately document maintenance activity using Company status and tracking systems Order, manage, and maintain maintenance materials, supplies, and tools
Troubleshoot and repair equipment problems to keep downtime at acceptable levels
Qualifications
Possess an Environmental Protection Agency Universal refrigeration license and have a working knowledge of refrigeration and chiller systems
Possess (within 6 months of hire) appropriate North Carolina Boiler Operation license required for the medium pressure boiler and steam systems and have a working knowledge of medium pressure steam systems Passing score on technical knowledge assessment tests
Qualification assessment interview
Demonstration of the ability to adequately perform all associated trades functions
Must possess a working knowledge of personal computers and building environmental control software (preferably Allerton IBEX for Windows)
Effective written and oral communication skills
Working knowledge of MS office software packages (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This is a manufacturing and building operations working environment. Typical characteristics for the working environment within this position include:
Personal Protective Equipment: May include safety glasses, gloves, safety shoes, ear plugs, hard hat, respirator Perform job in a manner that ensures a safe and clean facility
Use and proper disposal of hazardous chemicals/waste is required
Planned and unplanned overtime may be required to support continued factory operation
Physical: Lifting (50 – 60 pounds individually), Frequent gripping, standing, bending, squatting, pulling, pushing, and reaching
Target salary range: USD $32.51/Hr. - USD $40.07/Hr. This estimate represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors (geographic location, etc.). Actual pay may vary. This job posting will remain open until the position is filled.

Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.
