Job Summary
The Area ESH Supervisor helps develop and execute the project Environmental, Safety, and Health (ESH) program across a specific area of a project. This involves administrative and field tasks per established industry practices, procedures, and regulatory and Bechtel requirements. The position requires practical application of occupational safety and related disciplines for managing environmental, safety and health aspects of a project or facility. The position reports to the Field Safety Manager and coordinates with the Area Construction Manager.
Work requires physical ability for field inspections, including walking on construction sites in extreme heat or humidity, climbing ladders and scaffolding, working at heights or on uneven surfaces, and entering confined spaces. Must be able to wear assigned PPE (e.g., harness, life vest, gloves, etc.).
Major Responsibilities
Perform assignments addressing major safety and health concerns, applying expert judgment, scientific and best practice methodologies to develop strategies that minimize potential negative impacts.
Serve as the primary Arealevel ESH representative to the client, subcontractors and area leadership teams providing clear riskbased input to support informed decisionmaking.
Establish, monitor, and enforce ESH performance expectations for subcontractors, including corrective actions and escalation where required.
Lead ESH planning and risk management for simultaneous operations, phased energization, and interfaces between construction, commissioning, and owner activities.
Lead and mentor ESH team members; assign tasks and support their development.
Advise project leadership on ESHrelated risks and tradeoffs, influencing planning and execution decisions in highpressure environments.
Provide input on bid decisions and estimates (scope, constraints, schedules, budgets) with respect to integration and compliance with safety and health requirements.
Interpret requirements and provide technical assistance within ESH teams and to other project groups regarding risk and hazard assessment, plan preparation, and ESH program execution.
Additional Responsibilities
Research issues and regulatory requirements, perform studies and risk assessments, and prepare documentation and reports.
Implement the project Safety and Health Management Plan, associated plans and procedures, and training program.
Provide input to other project groups, so that safety and health requirements are integrated within project planning, design, construction plans, procurement, and subcontracts.
Participate in meetings, as required, with customers, project team members, and contractors/subcontractors to advise them of safety and health requirements.
Monitor compliance through inspections and audits to evaluate ESH performance, identify corrective actions, and confirm compliance.
Analyze data, track ESH performance and trends, and prepare technical reports.

Education and Experience Requirements:
Bachelor of Science degree (or equivalent) in one of the same disciplines with 10 or more years of relevant experience; or an Associate’s degree (or equivalent) in one of the same disciplines with 12 or more years of relevant experience; or 15 or more years of relevant safety or health experience.
Experience managing ESH teams of 6 on projects with 2,000 workers.
Experience supporting semiconductor, hightechnology, or similarly complex manufacturing construction projects is desirable.
Required Knowledge And Skills
Proven ability to lead ESH programs through evolving scope, schedule pressure, and organizational change.
Proficiency in OSHA recordkeeping and standards and data management tools.
Demonstrated ability to communicate and influence at the senior leadership and client level.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills for reporting and presenting.
In-depth knowledge of ESH regulations and construction related industry standards.
Adaptable and able to work outdoors in a field environment under various weather conditions.
Ability to work outdoors, support multiple shifts, and travel/relocate as needed.
Valid driver’s license.
Additional Qualifications
Demonstrated experience in managing ESH teams of 6 or more across all three (ESH) disciplines on construction projects with at least 2000 craft workers.
Ability to work in multi-lingual, multidisciplinary environments.
Knowledge and experience with ISO 45001 Management System standards.
Specialized technical skills in safety or health discipline.
Broad Technical Knowledge, Science Skills, And Technical Writing Abilities.
Proven track record in managing ESH programs for large-scale projects. Strong ability to lead teams, influence stakeholders, and drive safety culture.
Professional certification (e.g., ASP, OHST, CSP, CIH) or progress toward certification is highly desirable.
