Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) or Experienced Veterinary Assistant

Veterinary Specialist Partners, 1120 Professional Blvd, Evansville, IN 47714

Full-time and part-time, $23 to $29 an hour plus evening and weekend differentials. Opening early December 2026.

We're building something new in Evansville, and we're looking for experienced veterinary professionals who want to be part of it from the very beginning. Veterinary Specialist Partners is opening a brand-new emergency and urgent care hospital with specialty internal medicine, planned for early December 2026. This isn't an older hospital that's been remodeled, and you won't be stepping into someone else's routines and equipment.

VSP combines specialty medicine, emergency & urgent care, giving our team the opportunity to work alongside experienced veterinarians while caring for a diverse range of challenging and rewarding cases. Our internal medicine specialists have been seeing patients in Evansville since 2018. In the new building you'll work with 64-slice and cone beam CT, digital X-ray and ultrasound, and you'll be part of our in-house chemotherapy and endoscopy cases. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is coming in early spring 2027. Our urgent care doctors also perform limited emergency surgery, and we'll take you through VSP's anesthesia training before you help with those cases.

Since we're opening the doors together, you'll have a real say in how the treatment area runs, how we communicate, and the kind of team culture we build. You won't just be joining a team; you'll be helping build one.

This isn't an entry-level job. We're hiring registered veterinary technicians who can provide advanced nursing care on emergency, urgent care and internal medicine cases, and experienced veterinary assistants with strong hands-on skills who support our doctors and RVTs.

A quick note on titles. In Indiana, only people registered with the Indiana Board of Veterinary Medicine may call themselves a "registered veterinary technician," "veterinary technician" or "RVT" (IC 25-38.1-4-1). RVT candidates will need an active Indiana registration. If you hold an LVT or CVT from another state, we'd still love to hear from you. You'll just need your Indiana registration before using the RVT title here. Our assistants work under the title Veterinary Assistant.

As an RVT, your days will include things like:

  • Triaging emergency and urgent care patients as they arrive and watching closely for changes
  • Venipuncture, IV catheters, fluid therapy, and calculating and giving medications
  • Collecting lab samples and running in-house diagnostics
  • Anesthesia monitoring and recovery for sedated procedures, and supporting limited emergency surgery once you've finished our anesthesia training
  • Helping with ultrasound, endoscopy and CT, and taking digital radiographs
  • Safely handling and giving chemotherapy with the right PPE, and showing clients how to handle it at home
  • Handling and logging controlled substances
  • Keeping instruments sterile and the treatment area clean and stocked
  • Walking clients through medications, treatment plans and discharge instructions

Veterinary assistants work under the direction of our veterinarians and RVTs and help with:

  • Restraint and handling for exams, treatments and procedures
  • Venipuncture, IV catheters and medications as delegated
  • Lab samples, in-house diagnostics, and positioning for radiographs and CT
  • Monitoring patients during procedures and recovery and reporting any changes
  • Charting, sterile instruments, and keeping the treatment area stocked

Here's what we need from you:

  • For RVTs, an active Indiana registration or the ability to get one
  • Hands-on clinical experience in a veterinary hospital. Two or more years is preferred.
  • Solid restraint, venipuncture, IV catheter and medication skills
  • Strong dosage math. Everyone passes our drug calculation test before getting access to the controlled substance cabinet.
  • Good aseptic technique and patient monitoring skills
  • Availability for weekend and closing shifts
  • Clear communication and a team-first attitude

Anesthesia monitoring experience, emergency or internal medicine experience, and familiarity with Instinct or another practice software program are all a plus.

Schedule, pay and benefits

Our hospital will provide extended hours for Emergency & Urgent Care, including evening and weekend coverage. The goal is to be 7 days a week 8 am to 10 pm (Opening Wednesday to Sunday in the beginning). Because of this, you'll need to be available for weekend and closing/evening shifts, and those shifts come with a differential on top of your base rate ($2-$4 per hour differential). The hospital closes on New Year's Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas. Full-time schedules are five 8-hour shifts, with a mix of weekday, evening, closing and weekend shifts based on hospital needs. Pay is $23 to $29 an hour, depending on experience and skill level.

Full-time benefits include:

  • Company-paid health insurance for employee, percent paid for family nand a life insurance policy (90 Day waiting period)
  • Dental and vision insurance, with reduced premiums for spouse and family coverage (90 day waiting period)
  • Paid short-term disability, plus additional life insurance and long-term disability options
  • 401(k) with company match
  • 120 hours of paid time off a year, available after your first 90 days, plus up to four paid sick days
  • Paid holidays on New Year's Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas, when the hospital is closed
  • Up to $2,000 a year in CE reimbursement for licensed and registered technicians after six months with us, or up to $2,000 toward an accredited veterinary technician program for assistants who enroll
  • License reimbursement, professional development and tuition reimbursement
  • Four embroidered sets of VSP scrubs (part-time team members receive one or two sets)
  • Our employee pet care benefit for up to three of your own pets
  • Employee referral program
  • Complimentary YMCA membership
  • A break room stocked with snacks and drinks, and flexible scheduling within the needs of the hospital
