Veterinary Assistant
Location: Chapel Hill, Tennessee
Position Overview
Our clinic is looking for a compassionate, dependable Veterinary Assistant to join our team. In a small rural practice, every team member plays an important role in patient care, client communication, and keeping the clinic running smoothly. This position supports veterinarians and technicians with medical care, animal handling, and daily clinic operations.

Key Responsibilities
Patient Care
- Safely restrain dogs and cats for exams, diagnostics, and treatments
- Assist veterinarians during examinations and procedures
- Prepare patients for surgery and monitor recovery under supervision
- Clean and maintain treatment areas, and exam rooms
- Observe and report changes in patient behavior or condition
Clinical Support
- Prepare vaccines, medications, and treatment supplies
- Run basic in-house lab tests (fecals, snap tests, etc.) as trained
- Assist with radiographs and diagnostic procedures
- Maintain accurate patient records in the medical system
- Clean, sterilize, and organize surgical instruments
Client Interaction
- Help check clients in and out
- Provide basic education on medications, preventatives, and post-visit care
- Answer phones and schedule appointments when needed
- Support clients with compassion, especially during difficult visits or emergencies
Clinic Operations
- Stock supplies and keep treatment areas organized
- Help maintain cleanliness throughout the clinic
- Assist with inventory as needed
- Support the team during busy or emergency situations
Qualifications
- Experience working with animals preferred (clinic, shelter, farm, or kennel)
- Comfortable handling dogs and cats of various sizes and temperaments
- Strong teamwork and communication skills
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
- Reliable and willing to help wherever needed
- High school diploma or equivalent
Bonus if you have:
- Previous veterinary clinic experience
- Knowledge of basic animal restraint and husbandry
- Interest in growing within veterinary medicine
- Love of animals and interest in veterinary medicine
Experience working with animals is a plus, but not required.
- Reliable, positive attitude, and strong work ethic
- Comfortable handling dogs and cats of different sizes and personalities
- Willingness to learn and be trained
- Ability to multitask and work as part of a small team
- High school diploma or equivalent
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift animals (up to ~40–50 lbs with assistance when needed)
- Standing, walking, and bending throughout the day
- Comfortable working around animals, cleaning tasks, and medical procedures

Pay: $15.00 - $18.00 per hour
