What are the responsibilities and job description for the Resident Manager position at Veterans Village of San Diego?
Job Summary:
The On-Site Resident Manager plays a key role in supporting the mission of VVSD GPD program and campus by creating a safe, clean, respectful environment on-site, supporting residents in their journey toward stable housing, and assisting the case-management and facility team with operational and resident-life functions.
Essential Functions and Duties
- Serve as the primary on-site contact for veterans during assigned hours, responding promptly to residents’ needs and emergency situations.
- Maintain duty phone and respond to all phone calls.
- Daily handle of mail/packages addressed to clients and distributed to mail to clients.
- Inventory supplies and send to supervisor for purchase.
- Reinforce veteran-focused program rules and expectations while promoting dignity, respect, and a supportive housing culture.
- Conduct wellness and bed checks according to policy; monitor resident well-being and escalate concerns appropriately.
- Document incidents, behavioral concerns, and rule violations using professional and objective reporting standards.
- Ensure chow hall meal sign in sheets are inside of chow for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
- Work in collaboration with Office B staff (VSAs) regarding chow hall monitoring and enforce chow hall rules.
- Work in collaboration with Family Health Center and case managers regarding scheduled clinic appointments for clients.
- Complete bed roll ups for new move-ins.
- Provide hygiene kits for new move-ins.
- Participate in team meetings, required training, and ongoing performance development.
- Maintain accuracy of security logs by conducting security rounds throughout the campus and shelter units. (Twice a week)
- Daily document the issuing of personal hygiene and cleaning products to clients. Part of the Bridge/SITH/SNG program.
- Foster a healthy community environment by organizing or supporting activities that encourage teamwork, purpose, and social connection.
- Other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
Qualifications
- Lived experience as a veteran preferred (strongly encouraged).
- High school diploma or equivalent required; coursework or certification in social services, psychology, behavioral health, or veteran support preferred.
- Experience working with veterans, homeless services, substance-use or mental-health settings strongly preferred.
- Strong crisis-prevention and de-escalation skills; calm and professional under pressure.
- Demonstrated ability to set firm boundaries while building supportive rapport.
- Knowledge of VA benefit systems and veteran-specific resources is a plus.
- Ability to work with a diverse population.
- Effective communication, documentation accuracy, and teamwork skills
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays, and nights.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to bend and lift light objects
- Ability to sit for extended periods of time while viewing a computer monitor
- Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard
- Capable of hearing and speaking to exchange information
- Seeing to read reports and data
- Ability to speak English
- Must be able to work in a noisy, busy environment.
