JOB DESCRIPTION
Program Director
Veterans Rural Outreach (VRO) is a non-profit organization that provides for the needs of veterans in Shelby County, Kentucky and surrounding counties with food assistance, emergency shelter, transitional housing for the homeless, counseling, and community engagement. VRO manages the Veterans Village, which is comprised of six tiny homes and six apartsment off site. The mission of VRO is restoring total health to local veterans in an environment of compassion, mercy and love.
The Program Director will provide oversight and management over the programming at the VRO under the direction of the Board of Directors. The ideal candidate will be profiecient in establishing a program that is sustainable, adheres to the applicable standards and regulations, and ensures our veterans are managed effectively and treated with care. The Program Director will assist with ensuring our veterans and staff are served safely, effectively, to the highest ethical standards, and in accordance with our mission and guiding principles.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Reports to: Board of Directors
Program Management and Strategic Planning
- Develop and implement strategies to improve program outcomes and expand service offerings.
- Monitor services and programs that meet the needs of veterans, including employment, housing, mental health support, and social services.
- Coordinate Personalized Care Plans for the veterans residing in Veterans Village.
- Oversees the development of program goals and objectives, including the Housing Success Plans.
- Assist with strategic planning, veteran needs, role of service within the community, program strengths and opportunities for expansion of existing services and development of new services.
- Oversee the resolution of complaints or problems concerning the service that arise internally or from the community in a timely manner.
- Develop and maintain an overall management system that provides appropriate staff coverage for regular operations as well as a response to crisis situations.
- Prepare and present regular reports on program performance monthly to the Board of Directors.
Budget and Resource Management
- Develop and manage the program’s budget, ensuring fiscal responsibility and compliance with funding guidelines.
- Work to identify and pursue funding opportunities, including fundraising, grants, donations and partnerships.
- Allocate resources efficiently to ensure program sustainability and growth.
Team Management and Development
- Supervise, mentor and evaluate a team of case managers and volunteers.
- Recruit and develop interns to assist with the VRO mission.
- Foster a positive, supportive and inclusive environment for staff and veterans.
Community Engagement
- Maintain relationships and be primary spokesperson for program, representing it to partnering non-profits, veterans’ organizations, local professionals, civic organizations and volunteers.
- Advocate for veterans’ needs and priorities at local, state and national levels.
- Schedule community center events, including Veterans night every Thursday.
Program Facilities Management
- Work closely with staff to maintain the cleanliness of the veterans’ areas by performing routine inspections.
- Oversee maintenance and repairs and maintain a schedule to ensure clients facilities are up to standards.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
Qualifications
- Education – A bachelor’s degree from an accredited university from an appropriate field is required. A Master’s degree is preferred. Years of work experience will be considered if a degree has not been acquired.
- Verbal and written communications skills – Must have interpersonal skills. Ability to work as a leader and as a team member. Strong partnership building and event planning skills. Good supervisory and management skills.
- Military experience is strongly preferred.
- Experience working in one of the following areas: social services, counseling, chaplaincy, ministry, conflict resolution, project management, addiction recovery, homelessness, or related fields.
- Must have the ability to communicate effectively in high stress situations with veterans experiencing crises.
- Must have the ability to speak at public ceremonies, fundraisers, and other events- effectively communicating the mission of VRO in a professional manner.
- Basic computer, technology and social media skills.
Pay: 50,000 annually
