Job Description: Crouse Performance Hall Custodian

Organization: Veterans Memorial Civic & Convention Center (VMCCC)

SUPERVISOR: Technical Director

EMP STATUS: Part-time

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

Rate: $14-$16/hr

NORMAL WORK HOURS: VMCCC is a 24/7 operation; work hours vary according to events held at the facility. This is a part-time position working approximately 25 hours per week; hours will be determined by events in Crouse Performance Hall and cleaning needs. Hours vary from daytime, evenings, overnight, and weekends.

General Purpose of the Job: The Custodian performs custodial duties, which include but are not limited to the following:

FACILITY READINESS

• Cleaning includes public and event areas such as the lobby, dressing rooms, auditorium, and restrooms.
• Each area will need to be swept, vacuumed, mopped, wiped down, consumables restocked, trash removed, and cleaned according to the area’s needs.
• Routine deep cleaning may include steam cleaning of carpets, furniture, air vents, lighting fixtures, and interior & exterior glass/windows, etc.
• Responsible for maintaining an inventory of housekeeping equipment such as brooms, mops, vacuum, buckets, gloves, trash bags, consumables, cleaning supplies, cleaning cart, etc.

EQUIPMENT READINESS

• Maintains cleaning supplies and equipment as well as cleaning supply inventory.
• Ensures efficient time management and readiness of the facility for clients and guests.
• Adheres to all safety regulations, including proper use of chemicals and in accordance with SDS regulations.

FACILITY SUPPORT AND OVERSIGHT

• Reports maintenance concerns to the Technical Director, which includes consumable supply levels.
• Works with all Crouse Performance Hall (CPH) staff to ensure cleanliness.
• Reports to the Technical Director any needs for assistance from exhibit hall staff for supplemental cleaning needs for CPH.

Other Duties assigned

• Adhere to all VMCCC policies and procedures.
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Technical Director or CEO.

Education and/or Experience:

High school graduate or equivalent required; higher education a plus. Must perform all tasks with minimal supervision.

Language Skills:

Ability to read documents and to effectively present information to various audiences. Will be required to deal with the public in a professional manner. Ability to understand verbal and/or written instructions and checklists. Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.

Mathematical Skills:

Must be able to calculate figures and amounts.

Reasoning Ability:

Solve problems and deal with a variety of variables; use a common sense approach to reason. Ability to understand and follow safety procedures.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical demands described herein are representative of those which must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Position requires: a) use of power equipment to clean and restore floors and steam clean carpets; b) regular and routine dusting, mopping, vacuuming, emptying trash, and cleaning restrooms and other areas; and c) routine maintenance of custodial equipment. Candidate must have the ability to operate vacuums and other related equipment and safely use cleaning equipment and supplies. Will be required to do prolonged standing; lift up to 50 lbs; wear proper safety clothing and gear when needed; work variable hours to include weekends and holidays based upon workload and schedule; follow the policy and procedures set forth by the VMCCC. Will be required to perform all job tasks using Federal, State, County, and VMCCC safety guidelines and precautions. Stamina to work long hours and to multitask when needed or where applicable. This job requires considerable physical activity and is a primary part of the job.
