This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.

Qualifications:

To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation.Basic Requirements:
  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Education: Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed.
  • Licensure and Registration: Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
  • Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. (NOTE: VA physicians involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status.) Approved residencies are:
    1. Those approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), b) OR
    2. Those approved by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA),OR
    3. Other residencies (non-US residency training programs followed by a minimum of five years of verified practice in the United States), which the local Medical Staff Executive Committee deems to have provided the applicant with appropriate professional training and believes has exposed the physician to an appropriate range of patient care experiences. Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency training programs and who would otherwise meet the basic requirements for appointment are eligible to be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs). PRPs must be fully licensed physicians (i.e., not a training license) and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee-basis. PRPs are not considered independent practitioners and will not be privileged; rather, they are to have a "scope of practice" that allows them to perform certain restricted duties under supervision. Additionally, surgery residents in gap years may also be appointed as PRPs.

  • English Language Proficiency. Physicians appointed to direct patient-care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. § 7402(d) and 7407(d).
Preferred Experience:
  • Board Certification as a Family or Internal Medicine Physician
  • Ambulatory Medicine from an accredited USA institute
  • Proficient in computer software
  • Experience in Women's Health

Physical Requirements: Physical requirements include but are not limited to moderate lifting (15-44 pounds), light carrying (under 15 pounds), straight pulling, pushing, reaching above shoulder, use of fingers, walking, standing, kneeling, repeated bending, ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously, near vision correctable (at 13" to 16" to jaeger 1 to 4), far vision correctable ( in one eye to 20/20 and 20/40 in the other), hearing (aid permitted), emotional and mental stability, and clear speech.

Responsibilities:

The physician (MD/DO) in Primary Care (PACT) is accountable for adhering to established policies and standards of care/ practice in evaluating, tracking, and following up on patient care. The MD/DO collaborates with health care professionals to provide longitudinal case management of the PCP's entire PACT panel with independent care delivery for acute/same-day needs or when otherwise requested by the PCP.

Major Duties/Responsibilities

1. Provide independent care delivery for chronic, acute/same-day medical needs. The type of care is served to the Veteran population, with diseases consistent with those seen in the general population, namely diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, mental health disorders, etc. A part of your responsibility is to write orders for diagnostic testing, prescribe medications, consult with specialty services, and utilize computerized/electronic medical records. The major function of the position includes Health Risk Assessment, goal setting for prevention, and chronic disease management. A major focus is on preventive medicine with a focus on achieving positive patient outcomes, improving coordination of care, decreasing clinic waits or delays and appropriate use of resources.

2. Provide direct patient care, including, but not limited to, history and physicals, medication management, evaluation of diagnostic tests and treatment planning, and clinical reminder completion as applicable.

3. Function as a leader in the PACT approach in the delivery of care, which emphasizes a team-based approach to healthcare. Oversee PACTs compliance to Message Manager, MyHealtheVet, and encounter completion. Proficient in Tele-Health to home visits (VA Video Connect), and Comprehensive Women's Health care.

4. Document all medical information in an electronic medical record.

5. Perform medication reconciliation.

6. Other duties as assigned

Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting

Work Schedule: 8:00 am to 4:30 pm
