Position is located in the Maintenance and Repair Buildings and Grounds unit at the VA Extended Care Center in Queens. Work involves the maintenance, construction, repair and modification of wooden items and structures throughout the facility. Performs as a journeyman carpenter a variety of repairs, alterations, installations and fabrication of articles of wood, repairs and installation or hardware, installation and repair of metal shelves cabinets and partitions.

Physical Requirements: Considerable standing, stooping and bending. Works on ladders, requiring stretching; sometimes works in cramped or awkward positions. Uses dollies to move heavy objects, but may lift objects ranging in weight about 50 pounds.
Working Conditions: Incumbent works in all hospital areas including contagious disease areas, ceilings, pits, crawl spaces, and tunnels. Works on scaffolds and high ladders, and sometimes under outside weather conditions. The incumbent must comply with safety rules, regulations, codes, and practices and uses protective devices such as ear plugs, safety glasses, respirators, and gloves.
