What are the responsibilities and job description for the Audiovisual Production Specialist position at Veterans Health Administration?

This position is located at the Danville VA Medical Center, Office of the Director, in Danville, IL. The primary purpose of this position is responsible for creating, developing, producing, directing and editing audio/visual productions needed in support of the VA mission and this healthcare system.

Qualifications:

IN ORDER TO QUALIFY FOR THIS POSITION AT THE GS-9 LEVEL YOU MUST MEET THE FOLLOWING:

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:
You must possess 1 year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-7 level in the Federal service, that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) needed to successfully perform the duties of the position and that is typically in or related to this Audiovisual Production Specialist position to be filled. Specialized experience for the position includes creating, developing, producing, directing and editing audio/visual productions; utilizes a variety of digital cameras and lighting setups, creating high-resolution, high-quality still digital images in indoor and outdoor settings; utilizing production/editing software and web tools. (THIS EXPERIENCE MUST BE SUPPORTED BY YOUR RESUME TO BE CREDITABLE.)

SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE:
You must possess a master's or equivalent degree OR 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree that is directly related to this position. The major study must be in photography, radio or television production, motion picture production, or other fields related to the position. One year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent 1 year of full-time study. If that information cannot be obtained from the school, 18 semester hours should be considered as satisfying the 1 year of full-time study requirement. (COPY OF TRANSCRIPTS ARE REQUIRED AT TIME OF APPLICATION)

COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:
You must possess equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and specialized experience to meet total qualification requirements at the GS-9 level. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school. (THIS EXPERIENCE MUST BE SUPPORTED BY YOUR RESUME TO BE CREDITABLE AND COPY OF TRANSCRIPTS ARE REQUIRED AT TIME OF APPLICATION)

IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Responsibilities:

***THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION***

Major duties and responsibilities include:
  • Providing support services including production assistance, media duplication, audio recording, editing assistance, and camera operation for studio and field production.
  • Digitizing video content for programs.
  • Recording studio and field audio and determining the placement and microphones.
  • Obtaining closed captioning files from the captioning server for placement.
  • Performing control room crew functions for live studio broadcasts.
  • Editing projects using non-linear editing systems and media storage networks.
  • Assisting in the set-up of video cameras including studio cameras and traditional camera systems.
  • Performing authoring and manipulation of graphics on the character generator.
  • Operating teleprompter, control room phone system for live satellite broadcasts, a router, audio board, multi-format tape and CD / DVD duplication system.
  • Maintaining broadcast tape library database system.
  • Maintaining remote equipment room and keeps inventory.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm
