Job Duties
The Regional Director leads, supervises, and manages 8-10 assigned DVS Offices and 20-30 personnel. The Regional Director reports directly to the Benefits Director. The Benefits Regional Director ensures that quality veteran claims and other support services are provided throughout the region in a timely and professional manner. In addition, the Regional Director prepares and trains the Assistant Regional Director, Assistant Regional Manager, Veteran Service Representatives and Veteran Service Contact Representatives under their supervision to provide claims and other veteran-specific support. Further, the Regional Director conducts outreach in their region, as appropriate. The Benefits Regional Director administers fiscal and other resources to properly support their assigned DVS Benefits Offices.
Minimum Qualifications
Demonstrated ability to motivate, train, supervise, hold accountable to established standards, manage and lead subordinates;
Demonstrated ability to develop and manage budgets, contracts and other state resources;
Extensive knowledge of, and the ability to interpret and apply, the laws and regulations pertaining to state and federal veterans' benefits;
Knowledge and understanding of military and veterans issues and terminology;
Demonstrated ability to successfully interact with federal, state and local government officials, and with superiors, coworkers, subordinates, and the veteran population;
Ability to research and reply to legislative and executive constituent inquiries, as well as requests for assistance from state veterans;
Ability to present ideas and concepts in an effective manner both orally and in writing;
Extensive travel during duty hours and occasional overnight travel at government expense is required;
Knowledge of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) and other state and federal laws and regulations implemented to protect veteran privacy.
Additional Considerations
A new probationary period will be required for all new Benefits employees who have not completed and currently maintain USDVA Accreditation, regardless of whether the employee has previously completed a state probationary period.
REAL ID is required for employment as a part of the federal prerequisites for USDVA Accreditation.
