Job Information
The Marketing and Event Specialist is a full-time hybrid or remote position based in San Diego or Southwest California and is responsible for delivering Veteran Ink’s tattoo therapy initiatives, digital marketing communications, and veteran engagement programs. This hybrid role merges elements of events, marketing and social media — bridging creative storytelling, program logistics, and relationship management to advance our mission.
This position is responsible for executing the team’s email marketing, basic graphic design, updating websites, social media, copy writing, video content, and more. The role requires someone who is self-motivated and detailed-oriented with an innovative attitude and can balance several tasks to help enhance our digital marketing platforms as a vital communication tool for our customers. Having an understanding or having previous marketing experience within the military and Veterans demographic is a plus.
The ideal candidate is a motivated, detail-oriented professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and can authentically engage with both the veteran and tattoo communities. The Marketing and Events Specialist will help manage tattoo and fundraising events, coordinating with our agency on social media, coordinating logistics for film shoots, campaigns, and partnerships that promote Veteran Ink’s programs and drive participation, visibility, and donor engagement.
This role reports directly to the Executive Director
Locations: Remote
Job Type: Full-time (40 hours per week). May require additional hours, evenings, and/or weekend work. This is a San Diego-based hybrid/ remote position due to our events primarily being in the San Diego region.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with Executive Director leadership to deliver key business goals through web and graphic content (including graphic design, digital marketing promotions, lead generation efforts, and generating marketing qualified leads), digital marketing and internal communications.
- Assist Executive Director with day-to-day partnership efforts and planning initiatives.
- Coordinate events including fundraising events, tattoo donor sessions, and partnership initiatives from start to finish.
- Create and support campaigns executed through marketing platforms with multichannel tactics, including emails, SMS, social, and other digital channels.
- Use Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar tools to produce visuals consistent with brand guidelines.
- Project managing core marketing campaigns and all executional elements from the team.
- Write and edit content for multichannel distribution, including website, email, print, social, digital
- Oversee freelancers and agency partners as needed for larger projects.
- Manage CRM of donors and alumni
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in events, marketing, and social media.
- Must be self-directed, detail-oriented and can organize and schedule work effectively to meet deadlines.
- Strong understanding of veteran and military culture, with sensitivity to trauma-informed care.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with attention to detail.
- Proficiency with social media platforms and digital communication tools.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize, and meet deadlines independently in a remote setting
- High emotional intelligence and comfort interacting with veterans and creative professionals
- Ability to communicate effectively across all departments and externally.
- Ability to work both independently and the desire to learn more as we grow.
- Ability to multitask and re-prioritize assignments appropriately, while maintaining an ability to juggle numerous projects simultaneously.
- Photography or video experience a plus
- Basic understanding of Adobe Creative Suite or Canva preferred.
- Immersed in social networks (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, and others)
- Strong visual eye for social media graphics, photography, videos, copy, etc.
- Excel in project management and understanding project management software
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar creative tools.
- Military veteran status highly preferred
- Background in nonprofit, veteran services, or the arts community.
- An understanding of military culture and language, vocabulary and jargon used to market to Veterans a bonus.

Work Conditions

- Travel required up to 10% of role.
- May require occasional evening or weekend availability for special events or campaigns.
- Must have reliable high-speed internet access and proficiency in remote collaboration platforms (Teams, Zoom, etc.).
Compensation
Salary Range: $27 – $32 per hour, commensurate with experience.
