Purpose:
- The HSE and Quality Manager will ensure full safety of all individuals working at the lab including employees, visitors and contractors, and full compliance with Vesuvius and local health, safety and environmental policies.
- This also includes ensuring that standard processes are in place and are followed and are support by a robust training program.
Direct Reports:
- The position does not have direct reports but each R&D team will have a safety committee member who will support the role.
Dimensions of Position:
- Person will be responsible for the safe working environment for 60 employees
- Position will be expected to improve the site safety audit score each year in alignment with the corporate requirements
Key Results:
- Manages the safety program and enforcement for employees and contractors
- Maintains safety databases and reporting
- Ensures compliance with group and local safety standards including DHS compliance and leads improvement plan for corporate audit score
- Translates corporate safety guidelines into best implementation strategies for an R&D environment including but not limited to IO’s, audits, ergonomic assessments and other Safety Breakthrough initiatives
- Leads 8D investigations on dangerous occurrences and injuries
- Provides safety training on new safety and established safety initiatives including tracking staff training
- Maintains and controls written operational procedures for equipment and test method procedures following established visual standard template
- Manages equipment and training information control through KPA system (formerly Sharepoint platform)
- Ensures new equipment is compliant with site safety protocol including Risk/Ergonomic Assessment, LTT, and safety audits before commissioning
- Manages calibration program
- Leads safety committee meetings
- Monitors and stays educated about environmental laws and regulations around workplace safety and policies of other sites

Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent at minimum.
- Associates or Bachelors Degree preferred.
Experience:
- If no degree, related laboratory experience
- Managing HSE rules and regulations
- Familiarity with industrial equipment function and operation
Knowledge:
- HSE policies and compliance
- Knowledge of training practices and implementation
- Familiarity with electronic platforms for management of data
Skills & Behavior:
- Ability to lead and proactively manage in times of crisis
- Excellent communication skills
