Overview
The Purchasing Manager oversees the entire purchasing process (material takeoffs, negotiating with suppliers, ensuring quality, and timely delivery). The Purchasing Manager is responsible for setting vendor/supplier expectations, creating and releasing purchase orders, and managing the purchasing process to ensure timely delivery of materials necessary for the company's operations.
Duties
- Prepare accurate steel (structural and miscellaneous) quantity takeoffs
- Manage and utilize existing stock inventory as needed
- Solicit and assess vendor proposals
- Negotiate with vendors/suppliers for optimal terms
- Place purchase orders and issue change notices as necessary
- Communicate delivery expectations and lead time management
- Follow up with vendors/suppliers regarding purchase orders, shipments, and delivery timings
- Maintain/grow working vendor/supplier relationships for raw materials, and supplies
Skills
- Broad knowledge of steel grades, raw material specifications, and transportation logistics
- Minimum of 5 years purchasing experience in the steel and/or fabricated metal products industry
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office products
- Familiarity in SAGE preferred
- Ability to manage shifting deadlines and priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Demonstrated skills in problem-solving and project management
- Strong analytical skills and supplier negotiation experience
