Food Runner Job Description
Position Title: Food Runner
Reports To: FOH Manager / AGM / General Manager
Department: Front of House
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Rate: $17.87 Tips
Position Summary:
The Food Runner plays a vital role in delivering a seamless dining experience by ensuring that dishes are delivered promptly, accurately, and with an understanding of guest expectations. Runners act as a liaison between the kitchen and dining room, requiring strong communication, grace under pressure, and attention to detail in a refined, high-volume environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver food to guests promptly, with proper plate placement and presentation awareness.
- Confirm each dish with the expo team and verify table numbers before leaving the kitchen.
- Communicate dish ingredients and potential allergens confidently and accurately.
- Assist in maintaining cleanliness and organization of expo line, stations, and pass.
- Clear and reset tables when needed; assist with guest requests in real time.
- Support servers by anticipating needs and maintaining flow during busy periods.
- Understand and be able to describe each menu item to guests when asked.
- Uphold all food safety and sanitation protocols.
Qualifications:
- 6 months in a fast-paced restaurant or hospitality environment preferred.
- Able to carry multiple plates and navigate tight dining spaces with grace.
- Excellent communication skills and a guest-first mentality.
- Strong sense of urgency and team-first mindset.
- Able to stand/walk for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs.
- Flexible availability, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
