Job Summary
We are looking for a Data Center Operations Technician to support the daily operations of a mission-critical data center in Barker, NY.
This role is responsible for monitoring the Building Management System (BMS), performing facility inspections, responding to alarms, recording environmental data, and helping maintain a safe and reliable operating environment.
In addition to facility operations, you will also support basic Day 2 data center activities, including installing network equipment, running fiber and copper patch cables, reading port layouts, and completing Moves, Adds, and Changes (MACs).
You will work closely with facility teams, vendors, and customer personnel to ensure the data center operates efficiently and with maximum uptime.
Primary Responsibilities
- Monitor the Building Management System (BMS) and respond to alarms, equipment faults, and environmental issues.
- Perform routine rounds through the data center to check temperatures, humidity, cooling systems, and overall facility conditions.
- Investigate alarms, cooling equipment issues, leak detection alerts, and other facility-related incidents.
- Record inspection results, environmental readings, and daily activities using company-provided tablets.
- Complete End-of-Shift reports, incident reports, and other operational documentation.
- Coordinate with vendors, security, and facility management to support maintenance activities and site access.
- Perform routine inspections of generators, cooling equipment, dehumidifiers, and other critical facility systems.
- Assist with general facility support, housekeeping, and operational readiness tasks.
- Install, remove, and relocate network equipment in data center racks.
- Install and manage fiber and copper patch cables while maintaining proper cable management.
- Read rack layouts, port matrices, and network documentation to complete Moves, Adds, and Changes (MACs).
- Update work orders and trouble tickets while following customer procedures and service level requirements.
Required Qualifications
- At least 2 years of experience working in a data center, critical facility, or similar environment.
- Experience using Building Management Systems (BMS) such as Ignition, Schneider, Siemens, Johnson Controls, Honeywell, or similar platforms.
- Basic knowledge of HVAC systems, CRAC/CRAH units, generators, UPS systems, liquid cooling, and environmental monitoring.
- Experience responding to alarms, performing facility inspections, and documenting findings.
- Ability to perform routine facility rounds and accurately record environmental readings using tablets or mobile devices.
- Experience with Day 2 data center work, including rack-and-stack, network equipment installation, hardware replacements, and MAC activities.
- Experience installing and managing fiber optic and copper patch cables.
- Ability to read rack elevations, port matrices, and basic network documentation.
- Experience using ticketing systems such as ServiceNow, Remedy, Jira, or similar platforms.
- Basic understanding of data center networking, including switches, patch panels, and fiber connectivity.
- Strong attention to detail, good communication skills, and the ability to follow procedures.
- Willingness to work rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed in a 24/7 environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in hyperscale or enterprise data centers.
- Experience with liquid-cooled data center environments.
- BICSI Installer certification or structured cabling experience.
- CompTIA A , Network , or similar IT certifications.
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
- Experience following SOPs, EOPs, MOPs, and change management procedures.
- Forklift, scissor lift, or aerial lift certification is a plus.
Overtime and Per diem will be provided
Pay: $25.82 - $31.09 per hour
