What are the responsibilities and job description for the Civil Structural Engineer position at Verustruct?
Verustruct is developing a suite of robotic construction technologies to deliver affordable, sustainable, safe, and beautiful housing to help close the U.S. housing gap of 4.5 million homes. Using our patent-pending translational slipform technology (TSF), we take a different approach to 3D printed buildings by extruding load-bearing walls, integrated with MEP systems, without the use of large and expensive support structures. We are looking for a Civil Engineer to help us architect and design the structures and materials of the future.
We are seeking a Civil Engineer (Level I / Level II / Senior) with a structural engineering or material sciences background to join Verustruct’s team. As a Civil Engineer, you will support the design, testing, and analysis of structural systems made by the TSF devices, ensuring that the buildings we create meet codes, safety standards, and are resilient enough to withstand environmental stresses.
In this role, you will collaborate with the mechanical and electrical engineers, reporting to the VP of Engineering, to ensure scalability of the TSF device. You will help to guide its design with a focus on material testing and concrete compositions necessary for creating sustainably printed bricks. You will also provide direction on the structural building design that the TSF will implement. A successful Civil Engineer at Verustruct will be hands-on with material testing and must be eager to learn about the material-feeding techniques required for 3D printed construction.
We value diverse backgrounds and believe that qualities such as motivation, interest, and the ability to learn quickly are just as important as meeting the qualifications listed. If you’re excited about the opportunity and feel you can contribute, even if you don’t meet every requirement, we encourage you to apply.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Guide the design of the full-scale translational slipform (TSF) device by providing mechanical engineers with specifications on weight, material, size, and durability for structurally sound walls.
- Assist in the design and analysis of load-bearing walls, foundations, and MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing) integration, ensuring performance, safety, and compliance with building codes.
- Conduct tests, hand calculations, and perform analyses to assess the size, strength, and integrity of the walls and foundations, considering additional structural elements such as cross-sections, size, and mass.
- Collaborate with the engineering team to ensure that Verustruct’s robotic construction systems produce durable, safe, and code-compliant structures for real-world construction.
- Research materials and test concrete mixes for extrusion and slipform processes, ensuring material performance and consistency.
- Evaluate the integration of traditional construction methods with 3D printed wall technology for home construction, ensuring effective incorporation of MEP and other systems.
- Conduct prototype and material testing to verify the structural performance of the printed components.
- Ensure compliance with building codes and industry regulations, with a focus on safety, resilience, and construction standards.
