Lead Field Technician

About the Role
Verum AV Solutions is seeking a Lead Field Technician to own commercial AV installations from pre-wire through client sign-off. This is a hands-on leadership role, you’re the face of Verum on active job sites, responsible for pulling cable, building racks, directing crew, and communicating directly with clients and GCs. If you’re a seasoned technician who takes ownership and delivers without being managed, this role is built for you.
Reporting Structure
This role reports directly to the Director of Installations and works closely with installs, warehouse and leadership teams.
Primary Duties
- Lead and execute commercial AV installations from start to finish
- Pull and terminate structured cabling (Cat6/6A, shielded AV cables)
- Build, manage, and wire equipment racks
- Mount displays, install projectors, audio systems, and control systems
- Troubleshoot AV signal paths and resolve system issues on-site
- Direct crew members and coordinate work on active job sites
- Manage client-facing communication throughout each project
- Work independently with minimal supervision from pre-wire through sign-off
Required Skills
Cabling & Infrastructure
- Structural wiring, pre and post construction, adhering to blueprints and schematics
- Cat6/6A termination, coax, shielded AV cable, data/telecom networks
- Cable dressing, labeling standards, and long-term maintainability
AV Systems
- Commercial displays: projectors, screens, video walls, TV mounting, digital signage
- Audio systems: ceiling speakers, volume controls, whole-building audio
- HDMI signal distribution: baluns, splitters, matrix switching
- Equipment rack build-out: leveling, labeling, logical wiring
- Control systems: URC, ProControl, Crestron, Extron, HAI automation
- Project environments: corporate, education, government, house of worship, courtrooms, auditoriums
Cameras & Surveillance
- CCTV and IP camera installation: DVR/NVR setup and remote access configuration
- AXIS camera products and software
- Familiarity with access control and fire/burglar systems is a plus
Networking
- Network device installation: Ubiquiti, Aruba, HP
- Point-to-point elevated network device installation
- Tower climbing for access point alignment and programming (a plus)
Testing & Diagnostics
- Fluke cable testers, LinkRunner, voltmeter
- CCTV camera tester, satellite signal meter
- Signal path troubleshooting and systematic fault isolation
Tools & Equipment
- Full hand and power tool proficiency
- MWP, scissor lift, boom lift, tow lift — comfortable working at heights
- Bluebeam or equivalent markup software (preferred)
Client & On-Site Leadership
- Conduct walkthroughs and communicate project status directly to clients
- Provide end-user training on installed systems
- Represent Verum professionally with GCs, facility managers, and end users
Required Experience
- 10 years in commercial AV, structured cabling, and low-voltage installation
- Proven track record leading crews of 1–5 technicians on active job sites
- Experience across multiple verticals: corporate, education, government and/or house of worship
- History coordinating with project managers, general contractors, and clients
- Demonstrated ability to manage projects independently from prep through client sign-off
Preferred Certifications
- CTS (Certified Technology Specialist)
- OSHA 10 minimum / OSHA 30 preferred
- Texas Fire/Burglar alarm license
