The Data Governance Council Lead will play a critical role in establishing and operationalizing our enterprise-wide data governance program across customer, supplier, contact, and item domains. This position combines strategic governance leadership with hands-on implementation, serving as the primary driver for the roll out of the Data Governance program and to implement Data Quality and Controls within our MDM ecosystem.
This role will lead the Data Governance Council, establish and maintain data quality standards, and foster a thriving data community across all regions and functions. The successful candidate will work closely with data owners, lead data stewards, business stakeholders, and IT system owners to ensure sustainable data governance practices post-implementation.

The Data Governance Council Lead will play a critical role in establishing and operationalizing our enterprise-wide data governance program across customer, supplier, contact, and item domains. This position combines strategic governance leadership with hands-on implementation, serving as the primary driver for the roll out of the Data Governance program and to implement Data Quality and Controls within our MDM ecosystem.
This role will lead the Data Governance Council, establish and maintain data quality standards, and foster a thriving data community across all regions and functions. The successful candidate will work closely with data owners, lead data stewards, business stakeholders, and IT system owners to ensure sustainable data governance practices post-implementation.
Key Responsibilities
Governance Council Leadership
- Conduct recurring Data Governance Council meetings with data owners and key stakeholders
- Facilitate decision-making processes on governance framework, data management, policies, standards, and issue resolution
- Operate change management processes for updates to governance charter, organizational structure, and data assets
- Serve as the primary liaison between the governance council and operational teams
- Publish and maintain data quality dashboards across all domains (customer, supplier, contact, item)
- Lead data certification processes to ensure accuracy and reliability of master data
- Oversee Data Quality Developers in implementing quality controls and monitoring frameworks
- Identify data quality issues and coordinate remediation efforts with appropriate stakeholders
- Support lead data stewards in building and operating data communities
- Provide insights on program adoption, quality metrics, and areas requiring attention
- Support lead data stewards in driving engagement and accountability within their domains
- Foster a culture of data ownership and quality across the organization
- Lead the "continuously operate and monitor" phase of the governance program post-go-live
- Track and report program KPIs to leadership and stakeholders
- Conduct program audits and present findings with actionable recommendations
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in governance processes
- Partner with data owners and lead data stewards on day-to-day governance activities
- Engage IT program sponsors and domain owners when leadership involvement is required
- Collaborate with business stakeholders and IT system owners across all functions and regions
- Work closely with project teams including vendor partners on project deliverables
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on data governance experience
- Proven track record of implementing and operationalizing governance programs
- Experience leading cross-functional teams and facilitating stakeholder alignment
- Demonstrated ability to work across multiple regions and business functions
- Hands-on experience with at least one data management, quality, and governance tool
- Tactical-level technical depth with ability to understand data flows and system integrations
- Proficiency in creating and interpreting data quality dashboards and metrics
- Understanding of change management processes and governance frameworks
- Strong facilitation skills for conducting council meetings and driving consensus
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for diverse audiences
- Ability to influence without direct authority across organizational boundaries
- Experience building and sustaining communities of practice
- Master Data Management (MDM) experience, particularly in customer, supplier, contact, or item domains
- Manufacturing industry experience across multiple countries and regions
- Familiarity with global data privacy regulations and compliance requirements
- Experience working with offshore vendor partners on large-scale data initiatives
- Certification in data governance or data management (e.g., CDMP, DGSP)
