Role Description The Construction Superintendent is responsible for leading all on-site construction activities from project startup through closeout. This individual serves as the primary field leader, ensuring projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with project plans, specifications, and Verticon's quality standards.

The Superintendent works closely with the Project Manager to coordinate subcontractors, manage project schedules, resolve field challenges, maintain positive client relationships, and promote a culture of safety and accountability. This role requires strong leadership, excellent communication skills, and the ability to anticipate issues before they impact the project.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise all daily field operations from mobilization through project completion.
  • Coordinate and manage subcontractors, suppliers, and vendors to maintain efficient workflow.
  • Develop and maintain short-term look-ahead schedules while supporting the overall project schedule.
  • Ensure work is performed in accordance with plans, specifications, building codes, and quality standards.
  • Conduct daily site walks to verify quality, identify deficiencies, and proactively resolve issues.
  • Enforce company safety policies and OSHA requirements while promoting a strong safety culture.
  • Lead weekly subcontractor coordination and safety meetings and daily planning activities.
  • Develop and maintain rolling three-week look-ahead schedules that support the master project schedule, proactively identifying constraints and coordinating upcoming work.
  • Lead weekly planning meetings with subcontractors to review look-ahead schedules, sequencing, manpower needs, and upcoming milestones.
  • Coordinate labor, materials, equipment, inspections, and deliveries to maintain workflow and schedule continuity.
  • Monitor project progress against the master schedule, identify potential delays, and collaborate with the Project Manager to develop and implement schedule recovery plans.
  • Maintain daily reports, project documentation, site photographs, and field records.
  • Coordinate inspections with local jurisdictions and third-party inspectors.
  • Review shop drawings, submittals, and RFIs as needed to support field operations.
  • Identify schedule impacts and collaborate with the Project Manager to develop recovery plans.
  • Manage site logistics including deliveries, equipment, material storage, temporary utilities, and site security.
  • Assist with project turnover, punch list completion, owner training, and closeout documentation.
  • Foster positive relationships with owners, architects, engineers, inspectors, and trade partners.
  • Mentor field personnel while promoting Verticon's culture of teamwork, professionalism, and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • Seven or more years of experience as a Construction Superintendent or similar field leadership role.
  • Experience managing commercial, multifamily, and light industrial construction projects preferred.
  • Strong understanding of construction sequencing, scheduling, and means and methods.
  • Thorough knowledge of OSHA regulations and construction safety best practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, contracts, and shop drawings.
  • Experience coordinating multiple subcontractors while maintaining project schedules.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and construction management software such as Procore, Bluebeam, Microsoft Project, or similar platforms.
  • Ability to solve problems independently and make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment.
  • Valid driver's license

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to walk active construction sites for extended periods.
  • Frequently climb ladders, stairs, and uneven terrain.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) throughout the workday.
