SUMMARY:
Inspects maintenance processes, procedures, and condition of equipment for assigned aircraft weapons and support equipment in accordance with the Quality Control Plan and the PWS. Conducts personnel evaluations and task certifications. Establishes and monitors armory and maintenance room security and facility explosive license. Ensure documentation and historical records are maintained properly. Ensures compliance with flightline munitions accountability requirements IAW AFI 21-201. Conduct weapons academy training IAW AFI 21-101 for Weapons Mechanics.
MAJOR JOB ACTIVITIES:
- Conducts work center management evaluations.
- Coordinates activities with the Site Quality Supervisor.
- Performs scheduled and unscheduled inspections to determine the condition of assigned equipment and proficiency of weapons maintenance personnel as outlined in the Quality Control Plan.
- Participates in other Quality Control programs in accordance with the Quality Control Plan.
- Provides technical advice and assistance to weapons maintenance personnel and others.
- Conducts Certification/Re-certification training programs.
- Assists with supply/technical issues.
- Maintains surveillance over operations and activities to detect areas of accident or potential injury, unsafe acts or conditions, and takes immediate actions to correct unsatisfactory situations.
- Identifies potential problem areas and suggests solutions.
- Investigates identified problem areas as directed by Management.
- May perform classroom training on forms documentation, training programs products, and other training related to the maintenance effort as required.
- May be selected to perform special certifications including Red X inspections.
- Practices good housekeeping, tool control, FOD awareness/prevention, and safety at all times.
- Applies technical expertise and guidance to solve complex problems by interpreting technical data such as blueprints or manufactures’ manuals.
- Work typically requires a thoroughly comprehensive knowledge of helicopter weapon systems.
- Performs basic helicopter ground handling procedures such as towing, jacking, refuel/defuel as needed in emergency situations.
- Knowledge and experience in quality control, safety and environmental issues involving Weapons maintenance.
- Must possess a comprehensive understanding of Weapons quality control procedures.
- USAF or equivalent Weapons formal military training required.
- Extensive knowledge of Weapons maintenance procedures, troubleshooting, technical publications, special tools, test equipment, and safety procedures required.
- In-depth knowledge of the AF technical order system and work center management functions.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is:
- Exerting up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to move objects.
- CLIMBING - Ascending or descending using feet and legs and/or hands and arms. Body agility is emphasized (onto or off of helicopter)
- HANDLING - Seizing, holding, grasping, turning, or otherwise working with hand or hands. Fingers are involved only to the extent that they are an extension of the hand (required for numerous tasks.)
- EXPOSURE TO WEATHER - Exposure to hot, cold, wet, humid, or windy conditions caused by the weather (while conducting exterior ramp operations)
- NOISE - Exposure to constant or intermittent sounds or a pitch or level sufficient to cause marked distraction or possible hearing loss (while conducting exterior ramp operations)
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
- Ability to move about both inside aircraft hangar and outside on aircraft ramp within close proximity of running equipment and aircraft.
SKILLS AND TECHNOLOGY USED:
- Extensive knowledge of Weapons maintenance procedures, troubleshooting, technical publications, special tools, test equipment, and safety procedures required.
- Weapons qualifications and munitions handling certifications as applicable.
- Working knowledge of IMDS and other computer programs.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education / Certifications:
- USAF or equivalent Weapons formal military training required.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Security Clearance.
- Experience:
- Recent experience at the craftsman level (7 level) as a Weapons/Armament specialist (5 years within the last 8 years).
- Working knowledge of AS 9110 or ISO 9001:2008 Quality Support and Safety Programs required.
- Recent Quality Control experience.

The current union rate for this position is $53.77/hr.
