Versutus Accounting is seeking an experienced Senior Tax Manager to operate a dedicated portfolio of accounting and tax clients at our New Jersey office.
This position carries full responsibility for client portfolio performance, team leadership, and financial outcomes, with performance-based cash profit participation.
Role Overview
The Senior Tax Manager is fully accountable for the financial performance, client satisfaction, and execution quality of an assigned client portfolio. This role blends advanced technical oversight with people leadership and owner-level accountability, without personal capital risk.
You will act as the senior advisor for key clients, lead a dedicated service team, and ensure profitability, quality, and delivery standards are consistently met.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage forecasting, capacity planning, and financial targets
- Identify opportunities for client expansion, upsells, and cross-services
Client Leadership
- Serve as the primary senior point of contact for assigned clients
- Handle complex client matters and escalations
- Maintain high client retention and satisfaction
- Ensure all client deliverables are accurate, compliant, and timely
Team Leadership & Management
- Lead a team of tax preparers and bookkeepers
- Conduct team meetings and performance reviews
- Review work for quality, accuracy, and compliance
- Coach, mentor, and develop team members
- Enforce firm standards, workflows, and deadlines
Technical Oversight
- Review complex tax returns (1040, 1065, 1120-S)
- Oversee bookkeeping and financial reporting
- Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations
- Collaborate with firm leadership on technical and process improvements
Process & Systems
- Enforce standard operating procedures and documentation standards
- Utilize firm technology stack (QuickBooks Online, UltraTax, Microsoft Teams and internal dashboards)
- Identify inefficiencies and implement operational improvements
Compensation & Benefits
- Base Salary: $85,000–$110,000
- Performance-Based Cash Profit Share (tied to portfolio profitability, not a retirement plan)
- Target Total Compensation: $145,000–$200,000

Required Qualifications
- CPA or EA
- 7 years of experience in public accounting or tax services
- Strong experience with individual and business tax returns
- Proven client-facing advisory experience
- Demonstrated leadership and team management experience
- Deep knowledge of accounting and tax compliance
- Strong organizational and communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience managing a client portfolio or department
- Familiarity with team-based service delivery models
- Strong experience with QuickBooks Online and modern accounting technology
