JOB TITLE: T&D ENGINEER
LOCATION: HAMPDEN OPERATIONS CENTER
REPORTS TO: SUPERVISOR, T&D CONSTRUCTION ENGINEERING & PLANNING
POSITION STATUS: EXEMPT, NON-BARGAINING UNIT
POSITION OVERVIEW:
Engineering duties include providing planning, design, specifications, and technical guidance/supervision associated with T&D overhead lines, with some support for underground work. Primary focus will be on Transmission Line Engineering, with some support for distribution possible.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Work closely with the Asset Management team to support scoping and design of new lines, rebuilds, and upgrades to the overhead transmission system.
- Work with field planners, asset management engineers, outside resources and project managers to design and engineer capital projects.
- Support the development, design, engineering & execution of the T&D capital program on lines up to 345 kV: identification, justification, resource & material planning, construction, quality, budgeting & forecasting, regulatory requirements and project close out.
- Maintain and modify engineering drawings and records as required for capital projects and maintenance work.
- Compile system data and information as needed for internal groups.
- Develop, update and maintain material and construction standards and specifications primarily associated with line construction.
- Perform some project management responsibilities, including planning, environmental, material management, financial support, and coordination of all involved parties. Responsibility for technical support of projects from conception to completion.
- Develop engineering design criteria documents for all transmission line projects.
- Oversee the development of construction specifications for line projects.
- Create survey specifications to support engineering design.
- Organize and maintain PLS-CADD-related files to be used in line design.
- Evaluate and implement new and modified overhead line materials.
- Provide field support as needed for line construction projects.
- Oversee contractors and/or consultants providing engineering and planning services.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Other related duties as assigned, include designated duties associated with system restoration.
REQUIRED OR PREFERRED EDUCATION, CERTIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- BS Degree in Electrical, Civil, Power or Mechanical Engineering, Engineering technology or equivalent is required.
- Licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Maine helpful but not required.
- 10 years of working with and/or designing utility transmission lines preferred but not required.
- Experience with PC-based line design and CAD software desired. Solid skills with MS Office software is required.
- Position requires a valid Maine driver’s license.
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Position is significantly sedentary but also involves regular field time with walking and standing in difficult terrain conditions.
- Outdoor time could bring exposure to inclement weather including rain, snow, cold and heat.
- Position requires mental and visual concentration.
- Position requires excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Position requires excellent organizational skills.
- Position can be somewhat stressful.
RATE OF PAY:
Salary Level is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
