Position Summary

VERSA Integrated Solutions is seeking a dynamic Communications Specialist to develop, coordinate, and execute strategic communications supporting Federal Government customers. The successful candidate will translate complex technical and programmatic information into clear, compelling communications tailored for executive leadership, program stakeholders, technical teams, and public audiences.

This position supports organizational change management, executive communications, digital engagement, outreach campaigns, employee communications, training initiatives, and customer communications that advance agency priorities and improve stakeholder engagement.

Position Objectives

The Communications Specialist will:

  • Develop communication strategies aligned with agency objectives. Produce professional written and visual communication products. Improve stakeholder awareness and engagement. Support organizational change initiatives. Strengthen executive communications. Ensure consistency across all communication channels.

Major Duties & Responsibilities

Strategic Communications

  • Develop strategic communication plans supporting federal initiatives. Create communication roadmaps and stakeholder engagement strategies. Coordinate communication campaigns across multiple organizations. Monitor communication effectiveness and recommend improvements. Support executive messaging and leadership communications.

Content Development

Develop and maintain:

  • Executive briefings White papers Fact sheets Newsletters Press materials Internal communications Web content Technical summaries Program status reports Success stories Communication toolkits

Ensure all content is accurate, consistent, and aligned with agency branding and messaging standards.

Executive Communications

Support senior leadership by preparing:

  • Talking points Speeches Presentation materials Congressional briefing materials Executive summaries Decision memoranda Leadership announcements Strategic messaging

Digital Communications

Develop communications using:

  • SharePoint Microsoft Teams Agency intranet portals Digital newsletters Email campaigns Collaboration platforms Social media (when authorized)

Monitor engagement metrics and recommend improvements.

Organizational Change Management

Support organizational transformation initiatives by:

  • Developing communication strategies Creating stakeholder engagement plans Preparing change management materials Coordinating training communications Measuring communication effectiveness Supporting executive adoption efforts

Graphic Communications

Collaborate with designers to produce:

  • Infographics Executive dashboards Posters Brochures Program roadmaps Visual presentations Digital graphics Conference materials

Stakeholder Engagement

Coordinate communication with:

  • Executive leadership Program offices Technical teams Federal customers Contractors External partners Training organizations

Communications Governance

Develop and maintain:

  • Editorial calendars Communication standards Style guides Branding guidelines Document templates Approval workflows

Required Technical Skills

Strong experience with:

Microsoft 365

  • Word PowerPoint Excel Outlook Teams SharePoint

Communications Platforms

  • Adobe Acrobat Pro Adobe Creative Cloud (preferred) Canva Microsoft Visio

Collaboration Tools

  • SharePoint Online Teams Planner OneDrive

Project Management

  • Microsoft Project Smartsheet (preferred)

Preferred Skills

Experience with:

Required Qualifications

  • Excellent written communication skills. Outstanding verbal communication abilities. Strong editing and proofreading skills. Exceptional organizational skills. Ability to manage multiple communication initiatives simultaneously. Strong interpersonal skills. Executive presentation experience preferred. Experience supporting Federal Government programs.

Education

Bachelor's degree in:

  • Communications Journalism Public Relations English Marketing Business Administration Public Administration

Master's degree preferred.

Equivalent experience may substitute for education.

Experience Levels

Junior (0–4 Years)

  • Experience developing written communications. Familiarity with Microsoft Office. Strong editing skills. Experience supporting communication initiatives.

Intermediate (5–9 Years)

  • Federal communications experience. Executive briefing preparation. Stakeholder engagement. Organizational communications. Digital communications.

Senior (10–14 Years)

  • Enterprise communication strategy development. Executive communications leadership. Organizational change communications. Team leadership. Customer engagement.

Subject Matter Expert (15 Years)

Recognized expertise in:

  • Strategic communications Federal executive communications Organizational transformation Stakeholder engagement Public sector communication strategy Executive advisory services

Preferred Certifications

  • Prosci Change Management Certification Certified Business Communicator APR (Accreditation in Public Relations) PMP (preferred) ITIL® 4 Foundation (preferred)

Desired Federal Experience

Experience supporting one or more of the following agencies is highly desirable:

  • Department of Commerce U.S. Census Bureau National Institutes of Health (NIH) Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Department of Labor (DOL) Department of Defense (DoD)

Security Clearance

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust or higher clearance, depending on customer requirements.

Work Environment

  • Hybrid or onsite within the Washington, DC Metro Area. Occasional travel to customer sites and conferences. Fast-paced environment supporting executive leadership and mission-critical communications.

Pay: $68,142.44 - $82,064.01 per year
