Role Description
This is a full-time hybrid role for a Plastics Engineer based in Malaysia with the flexibility to work from home on a part-time basis. The Plastics Engineer will be responsible for the design, development, and optimization of plastic manufacturing processes, including extrusion, injection molding, and technical molding. The role involves conducting research and development, analyzing polymer materials for improved performance, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver innovative solutions. Additional responsibilities include troubleshooting and improving production processes to meet quality and efficiency standards.
Qualifications
- Proficiency in Plastics Engineering, including material selection, product design, and process optimization.
- 5–8 years of experience in thermoforming, with solid working knowledge of injection molding
- Knowledge of Polymers and their properties, as well as the ability to innovate with new materials.
- Expertise in Research and Development (R&D), with an emphasis on creating efficient, high-quality manufacturing solutions.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to improve existing processes to enhance product quality and efficiency.
- Bachelor’s degree in Plastics Engineering, Material Science, or a related field; advanced degrees preferred.
- Familiarity with CAD software(e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD), manufacturing simulations, and quality control methodologies is advantageous.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively in a cross-functional, hybrid team environment.
- Experience working in a manufacturing environment in Malaysia or Southeast Asia preferred
- Strong understanding of plastic materials such as ABS, PC, PMMA, PVC and PET
- Hands-on experience with tooling, process setup, and troubleshooting
- Experience with process validation and quality systems (ISO 9001; ISO 13485 is a plus)
- Strong communication skills in English; Bahasa Malaysia and/or Mandarin is an advantage
- Experience setting up new production lines or greenfield manufacturing operations
