Overview:
Veronica Beard is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Product Compliance Specialist to help ensure our products meet global product testing and safety, sustainability, and social responsibility standards. This role requires a proactive self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced, global fashion environment and can collaborate with external partners and across production/sourcing, legal, and sustainability teams to navigate evolving regulations and support strong supplier partnerships.

Responsibilities:
(A) Product Testing & Safety Management – Lead product compliance with flammability, hazardous substances, and physical/mechanical safety standards:
- Conduct product risk assessments early in development to flag chemical, physical, or labeling non-compliance, including on third-party product lines.
- Implement, maintain, and update a global product safety & compliance manual with clear testing and approval workflows for all categories.
- Manage and maintain the company’s testing protocol (with third-party labs), Restricted Substances List (RSL), and MRSL.
- Track evolving and new testing standards and legislation (e.g., CPSA, FHSA, REACH, Prop 65, California PFAS laws, etc.) impacting product materials and ensure timely implementation.
- Review failed test results or integrity concerns; coordinate resolution with Production and factories; support Corrective and Preventive Action (CAPA) as needed
- Manage lab invoices and ensure timely, accurate processing.
(B) Labeling, Packaging & Content Compliance - Ensure packaging and labeling meet brand quality, sustainability, and regulatory needs:
- Monitor and manage compliance with international labeling (including US, Canada, EU, UK, and South Korea); oversee translations, fiber content, care labeling, recycling symbols, etc.
- Partner with internal teams to implement compliance into product tech packs, ensuring early identification of gaps.
- Lead compliance with global packaging and extended producer responsibility (EPR) regulations.
- Support implementation of upcoming digital labeling and Digital Product Passports (DPP) in line with EU ESPR legislation.
(C) Responsible Sourcing & Traceability Representative – Serve as lead liaison with suppliers and internal teams on product compliance, responsible sourcing, and traceability:
- Serve as primary compliance contact for supplier partners and mills, providing clear requirements and guidance; work with long-standing suppliers to integrate compliance seamlessly into production processes without jeopardizing margins or lead times.
- Issue and maintain Supplier Compliance Manual and track vendor acknowledgment.
- Partner with suppliers and Raw Materials/Sustainability/Production teams to ensure documentation for raw material traceability and validate preferred material certifications.
- Collaborate with Legal, Production, and Sustainability to resolve compliance questions or enforcement inquiries.
- Support social responsibility compliance as needed.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Environmental Science, Product Development, Product Design, Business, Sustainability, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 6 years experience in product testing/safety, regulatory compliance, or quality roles at a brand, retailer, or manufacturer.
- Strong understanding of compliance touchpoints across the full fashion product lifecycle.
- Ability to read product tech packs and identify testing, labeling, or packaging compliance risks.
- Skilled at analyzing test results, leading root cause analysis, and managing escalations.
- Expertise in quality, hazardous substances, and safety standards (e.g., ISO 9001, REACH) preferred.
- Highly organized and methodical with tracking data/information.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, operate independently, and build a compliance function in a fast-paced environment.
- Proactive problem solver with ability to identify compliance gaps early.
- Excellent cross-functional communicator.
- Detail-oriented yet pragmatic - able to balance compliance rigor with business needs.
- Strong sense of urgency and accountability.
