We are currently seeking a Clinical Laboratory Specimen Accessioner. Must be reliable, organized, independent worker with a strong work ethic. This position requires close attention to detail. Clinical laboratory experience preferred.
Available Shift: Tuesday-Saturday, Day Shift
Job Summary:
Responsible for the daily processing of patient samples according to established policies and
procedures. Understands laboratory sample collections, processing and storage requirements for
in-house testing and referral lab testing. Possesses the ability to organize workload for maximum
efficiency, accuracy and to help maintain the quality of patient testing. Assist testing personnel
with laboratory testing. Ability to maintain good patient relations and handle difficult situations
in a lab collection center.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Accurately verifying and labeling specimens according to lab protocols and patient requisitions
- Following all OSHA, biomedical waste, and infection control standards to maintain a safe work environment
- Using appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensuring cleanliness of the lab area
- Providing courteous and professional communication with patients, clients, and healthcare providers
- Ensuring patient confidentiality and HIPAA compliance at all times
- Entering test orders, diagnoses, and insurance information accurately into the laboratory information system
- Verifying specimen integrity and requirements for in-house and send-out testing
- Coordinating test orders with physicians or facilities, and documenting all communications
- Preparing and packaging specimens for transport to reference laboratories
- Performing daily inventory checks, ordering supplies, and assisting with supply management
- Documenting temperatures and daily equipment checks, and taking corrective action when needed
- Assisting with quality assurance tasks and data collection as assigned by the supervisor
- Participating in required safety and compliance training sessions
- Maintaining an organized, neat, and efficient work area
- Demonstrating initiative and the ability to perform duties independently
Qualifications:
• High School diploma or equivalency
• Clinical lab experience preferred
• Computer and word processing skills required
