JOB SUMMARY
The Transportation Specialist is responsible for the safe and timely pick-up and return of patients to Capital Area Health Network (CAHN) medical facilities. They ensure patients are transported with care, courtesy, and professionalism while adhering to all traffic laws and organizational safety protocols. In addition to providing reliable transportation, they assist patients as needed during boarding and exiting, maintain the cleanliness and readiness of the vehicle, and communicate effectively with staff to support smooth appointment coordination.
Essential Functions:
- Must maintain a sound and safe driving record at all times. All transportation specialists are required to report any traffic violation, whether it occurred off the clock or on the clock, to the transportation and/or facilities supervisor.
- All vehicles must be kept clean and regularly inspected to ensure smooth operation at all times. Maintaining a clean and safe vehicle for transporting patients reflects the specialist’s and CAHN’s commitment to excellence and stewardship. Safety must be prioritized at all times to protect our patients, staff, and vendors.
- Transportation specialists are expected to perform the above tasks as well as any task the transportation or facilities supervisor deems necessary.
- During idle time, it is good practice to assist other CAHN employees with their operations. This exemplifies teamwork and a willingness to go above and beyond to assist CAHN in maintaining its mission.
- Transportation specialists are expected to uphold a neat and professional appearance, including wearing clean, wrinkle-free clothing, and adhering to the CAHN Dress Code policy.
- Transit vehicles are not for personal use and should be parked at the location designated by CAHN at the end of the business day. Any deviations from this parking arrangement or usage must be approved by a supervisor.
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Previous experience in a medical setting is preferred, but not required.
- Commercial Driver’s License preferred, but not required
- Clean driving record preferred
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Communication- the individual must have effective oral and written communication.
- Customer Service- the individual must have excellent customer service skills and the ability to utilize these skills with internal and external customers.
- Confidentiality- the individual must be knowledgeable of the HIPAA guidelines and can keep all patient information confidential.

Schedule:
Monday – Friday, the hours of operation, 8:00 am- 5:00 pm, with potential extended hours.
