Job Summary
The Day Porter is responsible for ensuring that Capital Area Health Network facilities remain clean, safe, and presentable for all patients, visitors, and staff. The individual in this role performs essential cleaning and light maintenance tasks throughout the day, including trash removal, restroom upkeep, and maintaining the cleanliness of lobby areas and entrances. The Day Porter helps uphold CAHN’s professional image while supporting a clean and welcoming environment.
Essential Functions
The following duties are essential functions of this position. Reasonable accommodations may be made, in accordance with the ADA, to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these functions.
- Inspect public restrooms for cleanliness and restock supplies, including soap, paper towels, toilet paper, sanitary products (where applicable), and toilet seat covers.
- Clean and disinfect restroom fixtures, mirrors, sinks, toilets, and surrounding areas.
- Mop restroom and corridor floors regularly using approved disinfectants.
- Monitor and maintain cleanliness of public areas throughout the day by removing litter, cleaning spills, and emptying trash receptacles.
- Maintain building entrances by removing litter, debris, and cigarette butts to ensure a neat and welcoming appearance.
- Pick up trash as required or requested.
- Complete cleaning tasks assigned through the work order system.
- Clean lobby doors, windows, and windowsills (interior and exterior).
- Inspect elevator cabs; vacuum floors, and clean doors, interior walls, and control panels.
- Maintain the exterior perimeter by removing trash, debris, and standing water as needed.
- Replace trash can liners and clean receptacles on a routine basis.
- Place and remove carpet runners in lobby areas during inclement weather.
- Perform minor snow‑removal tasks such as light shoveling, sanding, salting, or sweeping walkways.
- Complete assigned work orders, including moving furniture, equipment, and supplies as needed, and performing occasional refrigerator cleaning or defrosting.
- Assist with setup and breakdown of events or functions.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Schedule
- Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM
- Additional hours may be required.
- This is an on‑site position.

Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Previous experience in custodial, janitorial, or facilities maintenance roles is preferred.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Knowledge of cleaning practices, safety procedures, and use of cleaning equipment preferred.
