The Nurse Manager oversees people, quality, safety, department finances, performance improvement initiatives, and workforce planning. As a key member of the leadership team, this role ensures that nursing practice continues to advance within a supportive and professional environment.
Leadership & People Management
- Recruit, hire, and retain high-performing nursing and clinical staff.
- Ensure comprehensive onboarding and ongoing competency development.
- Provide coaching, counseling, and performance evaluations.
- Coordinate staff meetings and maintain clear communication across the department.
- Ensure licensure/certification verification is current for all personnel.
- Build a friendly, cooperative, and values-driven work environment.
- Communicate regularly with staff regarding organizational updates and initiatives.
- Foster staff participation in department planning, evaluation, and professional development.
- Annually review nursing philosophy and mission alignment with team members.
- Partner with medical staff and internal/external stakeholders to ensure exceptional care delivery.
- Maintain compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards.
- Develop, implement, and monitor policies, procedures, and improvement plans.
- Track quality and safety metrics for assigned departments.
- Assist with annual budgeting and ongoing financial monitoring.
- Assess equipment and supply needs and ensure adequate resources for safe care.
- Develop and manage staffing schedules to ensure safe and efficient patient care.
- Collaborate with finance on monthly results and budget processes.
- Maintain clinical competency; may assist with patient care as needed.
- Participate in continuing education, in-services, and leadership meetings.
- Serve on committees as requested.
- Maintain required documentation, records, and emergency preparedness competencies.
- Develop annual department goals aligned with Vernon Health’s strategic priorities.
- Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the State of Wisconsin – required
- CPR certification – required
- Bachelor's of Science in Nursing preferred.
- Minimum of three years as a Registered Nurse
- Supervisory or leadership experience preferred
- Strong leadership and communication skills
- Ability to foster teamwork and a positive culture
- Competence in budgeting, workforce planning, and operational management
