What are the responsibilities and job description for the Legal Assistant position at Vernis & Bowling?
Vernis & Bowling's Deland office is seeking a Legal Assistant to join our team.
The ideal candidate should have a minimum of 2 years of experience with Florida Civil Litigation and must have knowledge of state and federal rules. This is a fast-paced environment that requires candidates to have initiative, effective communication skills, and a strong work ethic. The ideal candidate will have experience in handling subpoenas and obtaining medical records in accordance with HIPAA standards.
This position will support multiple attorneys with an assigned caseload involving the following tasks:
- Litigation experience
- Review of medical records and creating medical record summaries
- Experience with heavy calendaring and scheduling
- Managing attorneys' calendars as well as client reporting deadlines and court deadlines
- Preparing and drafting correspondence
- Trial preparation and review
- Organization of discovery documents, investigative files, etc.
- Billing
- Drafting motions
Candidates must be proficient in Microsoft Word as well as have strong skills in proofreading, typing, editing, redlining documents and working with legal case management programs.
