JOB DESCRIPTION
The Communications Assistant supports the Philanthropy & Marketing team through a blend of administrative, communications, donor-focused, and digital content responsibilities. This role is ideal for someone organized, detail-oriented, and creative, who enjoys balancing behind-the-scenes systems with storytelling and community engagement.
A strong candidate will understand the importance of philanthropy in sustaining Verner’s mission and will bring a heart for relationship-building, gratitude, and sharing the impact of generosity. This position plays a key role in helping ensure Verner’s communications are polished, timely, mission-aligned, donor-centered, and reflective of the diverse experiences of our community.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Communications & Digital Content
- Create and maintain branded templates, flyers, and materials in Canva.
- Develop social media content across all platforms, including reels, stories, and posts.
- Support monthly e-newsletters, e-blasts, and digital updates.
- Assist with website updates and maintenance.
- Capture photos or videos during events, classroom visits, and community gatherings.
- Maintain organized digital content libraries.
Administrative & Philanthropy Support
- Provide administrative assistance to the VP of Philanthropy & Marketing, including scheduling, email support, filing, and documentation.
- Track project deadlines, help manage workflows, and support departmental organization.
- Assist with donor communications.
- Help prepare meeting materials, presentations, and reports (including social media and communications analytics).
- Assist with donor communications, including thank-you letters, acknowledgments, event invitations, and impact stories
- Support data collection, reporting, and the creation of stewardship materials
Event & Program Support
- Assist with planning, coordinating, and executing events.
- Support logistics such as registration, materials preparation, and setup/breakdown.
General
- Maintain Verner’s brand standards across all external and internal materials.
- Serve as a positive and professional representative of Verner in the community.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Approach all work with a donor-centered mindset, recognizing the role of philanthropy in advancing Verner’s mission
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Graphic Design and/or related field preferred
- Experience with social media platforms
- Strong administrative and organizational skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
- Photography and video editing experience is a plus
- Ability to plan, coordinate, and host events
- Ability to handle multiple projects, meet production deadlines, and adapt to a fast-paced environment
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency in Canva required
- Basic website content management experience preferred
- Creative, adaptable, and mission-driven
- Interest in or experience with philanthropy, fundraising communications, or donor engagement strongly preferred
- Passion for storytelling, gratitude, and articulating the impact of community generosity
- Physically able to occasionally lift at least 25 lbs.
