Vermont Livestock Slaughter & Processing (VLSP) is a small family-owned business, and our mission is to provide quality service to the livestock industry. As one of the few USDA-inspected facilities in Vermont, we are equipped to slaughter and process beef, lamb, and pork for clients from both in and out of state. We cater to a wide range of clients from private individuals with a few head each year, to commercial producers who require multiple animals processed with regularity. We are a critical part of the forward-thinking farming and food community in Vermont, and across the New England landscape, that supports and celebrates farmers who raise livestock locally through humane practices and pasture-based systems.
About the Role
We're looking for a detail-oriented Packaging & Shipping Associate to ensure our products get out the door accurately, safely, and on time. This role is the last set of hands on the product before it reaches the customer — accuracy and food safety are everything.
What You'll Do
- Receive finished products from production, inspect for quality, and prepare for packaging
- Operate packaging equipment and machinery according to established procedures
- Apply labels and product identification accurately per regulatory and customer requirements
- Pack products according to customer specifications and packing lists
- Maintain proper temperature control for frozen and refrigerated products
- Prepare shipping documentation and coordinate with transportation providers
- Track shipments and handle returns or discrepancies
- Monitor and report packaging material inventory levels to management
- Assist the cutting team with trimming, grinding, portioning, and other production tasks as needed
- Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary packaging area
- Complete daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning tasks
What We're Looking For
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Experience in packaging, shipping, or warehouse operations
- Strong attention to accuracy in labeling and documentation
- Ability to follow detailed instructions and customer specifications
- Comfortable working in cold/freezer environments (0–40°F)
- Detail-oriented with solid organizational skills
Preferred:
- Experience in food product packaging
- Knowledge of food labeling regulations
- Familiarity with shipping software
- Experience with inventory management systems
- Forklift certification
Physical Requirements
- Lift 50 lbs frequently
- Stand for extended periods
- Work in cold and freezer conditions (0–40°F) throughout the shift
- Operate packaging machinery and move product efficiently
Schedule & Compensation
- Pay: $20–$22/hr based on experience
- Hours: Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–3:30 PM
- Type: Full-time, non-exempt
- Possible weekend/holiday work during peak shipping periods
