Job Summary

The Director of Operations serves as the chief administrative and operational leader of the Vermont Farm Bureau, working closely with the President, Board of Directors, county Farm Bureaus, sponsors, and partner organizations. The Director advances the Vermont Farm Bureau's mission to "Serve and Advance Vermont Agriculture" by strengthening the organization's operations, financial sustainability, and grassroots leadership. This position plays a key role in the administration of the organization's programs, events, finances, communications, and staff.

Key Responsibilities

Direct day-to-day operations of the Vermont Farm Bureau office.

Support Board of Directors through effective communication and engagement.

Manage organizational finances in accordance with Board-approved budgets and policies.

Oversee staff, including conducting regular staff meetings, providing leadership, and performance management.

Oversee banking relationships, financial reporting, payroll administration, and internal controls.

Coordinate major events including the Annual Meeting, Summer Picnic, educational programs, and special events.

Promote the Vermont Farm Bureau and its mission through engagement outreach and public communications.

Serve as a liaison with the American Farm Bureau Federation, state agencies, agricultural organizations, and coalition partners.

Support grassroots engagement efforts that amplify the voice of Vermont agricultural producers.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with boards, committees, or volunteer-led organizations.
  • Associate's degree or equivalent professional management experience.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently.
  • Preferred knowledge of Vermont agriculture.
  • Experience with budgeting, grant management, fundraising, and sponsorship development.
  • Experience supervising employees and managing organizational operations.

This position requires some out-of-state travel for partner & training events.

Attendance is required at the State Annual Meeting, held annually on the first Saturday in November.
