What are the responsibilities and job description for the Bailiff position at Vermilion County?
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF WORK:
Under general supervision of the Court Administrator and/or Presiding Judge, maintains order and decorum of the County courtrooms as prescribed by the Presiding Judge(s).
ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK
1) Announces the convening of court; controls the movements of spectators and those having business with the court as related to entering and exiting; received and relays messages while court is in session.
2) Receives and relays questions from jurors to the Presiding Judge and functions as liaison between the jury and the Judge.
3) Secures materials for judicial and counsel reference as requested.
4) Perform other duties as assigned by the Presiding Judge.
DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS:
Education and Experience High school diploma or general education degree (GED); law enforcement training and experience necessary. Must be at least 21 years of age.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Requires a working knowledge of County judicial systems and procedures, as well as courtroom and jury procedures. Requires ability to serve as a sworn officer of the court, to maintain constant state of alertness to changing courtroom situations, to maintain courtroom decorum, and to work an irregular schedule as dictated by judicial demands and instructions.
