What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Assistant Public Defender position at Vermilion County Public Defender?
SENIOR ASSISTANT PUBLIC DEFENDER
We are looking for an attorney who has criminal law and/or jury trial experience. The attorney would be handling a felony caseload and be primarily assigned to a specific courtroom with courtroom partners. You would be representing indigent people charged with crimes ranging from Class 4 felonies to murders. We currently have 6 felony assistants (you would be replacing one of the 6), 1 juvenile assistant, and 2 misdemeanor assistants. We also have an investigator and 4 support staff members. The office is open Monday through Friday from 8:30-4:30 and it is rare for employees to work late. There is no residency requirement and no on-call expectation. There is a rotating Sunday bond court split evenly between the 9 attorneys. This position qualifies for federal student loan repayment programs. Benefits are provided through Vermilion County and include health, dental, retirement, and more.
Salary range $90,000 - $92,000
