The Service Manager leads the daily operations of the Service Department to ensure efficiency, quality, and customer satisfaction. This role oversees service scheduling, technician management, and workflow to maintain a productive, safe, and customer-focused environment. The Service Manager also partners closely with other departments to deliver an exceptional customer experience and drive department performance.
What You'll Do:
· Manage and direct all Service Department operations to ensure customer satisfaction and efficiency.
· Oversee service scheduling, technician assignments, and the repair lifecycle to ensure timely completion and quality results.
· Hire, train, and develop Service Technicians and Service Administrators.
· Ensure all service tickets — customer, internal, and warranty — are processed accurately and promptly.
· Partner with Sales to coordinate reconditioning and preparation of used equipment.
· Provide hands-on technical assistance when needed.
· Monitor departmental expenses while maintaining productivity and profitability.
· Lead weekly Service Admin and Store/AR meetings to review open work orders and department updates.
· Conduct monthly service P&L meetings and visit key customers regularly.
· Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment and enforce safety standards.
· Ensure adherence to company SOPs and best practices.
· Stay current with industry trends and new technologies through Vermeer and VGP training programs.
· Follow all company policies and safety guidelines as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
· Perform other duties as assigned.
What You'll Bring:
· Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and develop a team.
· High degree of mechanical aptitude and understanding of heavy equipment systems.
· Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
· Strong PC proficiency with MS Office Suite; IntelliDealer and Paycom experience a plus.
· Exceptional customer service and communication skills.
· Proven ability to adapt to various people and environments — customers, suppliers, co-workers, and manufacturer reps.
· Professional, ethical, and self-directed with strong time management skills.
· Demonstrated commitment to safety and adherence to policies and regulations.
· Ability to lift 50 lbs and work in varying weather and noise conditions.
· Willingness to work overtime and weekends as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
· Associate degree in Applied Science, Diesel Mechanics, Diesel Technology, or related field, and 7 years of progressive technician or service leadership experience in heavy equipment or a related industry; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
· 3 years of leadership experience required.
· 5 years Vermeer Technician experience preferred.
· Vermeer Technician Certification required within 6 months of start date.
· Vermeer Advanced Technician Certification and two engine manufacturer certifications preferred.
· Must have a valid unrestricted Driver's License and maintain a clean driving record.
· Background check and pre-employment drug testing required.
