Job Summary
The Fiber Splicing Construction Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of fiber splicing activities within telecommunications construction projects. This role ensures projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with quality and industry standards. The Construction Manager will lead splicing teams, coordinate with contractors and stakeholders, and ensure network integrity from installation through activation.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and oversee fiber splicing operations for construction projects, including backbone, distribution, and drop fiber
- Supervise splicing crews and subcontractors, ensuring quality workmanship and adherence to standards
- Ensure proper execution of fusion splicing, testing, troubleshooting, and restoration activities
- Review splice documentation, as-builts, test results, and closeout packages for accuracy and completeness
- Coordinate daily activities with engineering, construction, permitting, and project management teams
- Enforce safety policies and conduct regular safety meetings and site inspections
- Monitor project schedules, labor productivity, and material usage
- Resolve field issues related to splicing, design discrepancies, and fiber damage
- Ensure compliance with customer requirements, industry standards, and company procedures
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to splicing teams
- Track KPIs such as quality, rework, on-time completion, and network performance
Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of experience in fiber splicing and telecommunications construction
- Strong hands-on knowledge of fusion splicing, testing (OTDR, power meter), and fiber troubleshooting
- Experience managing field crews and subcontractors
- Ability to read and interpret fiber design plans, splice schematics, and staking sheets
- Knowledge of OSHA safety requirements and construction best practices
- Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills
- Proficiency with project tracking tools and documentation systems
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel to job sites as required
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience as a Construction Manager, Supervisor, or Lead Splicer
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification
- Experience with large-scale fiber deployment projects (FTTH, FTTx, backbone)
- Familiarity with client-specific standards (e.g., telecom carriers, municipalities, utilities)
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Frequent field presence in outdoor environments and construction sites
- Ability to lift up to 80 lbs and work in varying weather conditions
- Occasional extended hours based on project needs
