Full-Time Farm Hand

Verhey Swine Farms is seeking a dependable, hardworking individual to join our operation as a Full-Time Farm Hand. This is a year-round position involving both livestock and crop production. We are looking for someone who takes pride in their work, works well as part of a team, and is willing to take initiative when needed.
Job Responsibilities
- Complete daily barn chores and provide general livestock care
- Assist with loading out pigs
- Assist with early morning and evening livestock loads as scheduled
- Perform general barn repairs and maintenance
- Assist with planting and harvest operations
- Prepare and maintain planters and other equipment for spring planting
- Prepare combines and other equipment for harvest
- Operate farm machinery and equipment
- Drive a semi as needed for farm operations, if qualified
- Perform general farm and equipment maintenance
- Participate in a rotating weekend schedule for barn chores
- Complete additional farm-related duties as needed
Schedule
This is a full-time, year-round position. Agriculture does not always follow a traditional 8:00 AM–5:00 PM schedule. During planting and especially harvest, employees should expect longer days, evenings, and weekend work as necessary to complete the season safely and efficiently.
Applicants should be comfortable with a schedule that may change based on weather, livestock needs, field conditions, and other farm operations.
Qualifications
- Dependable and punctual
- Strong work ethic
- Able to work independently and as part of a team
- Willing to learn and take initiative
- Able to adapt when schedules, locations, or priorities change
- Comfortable working around livestock and farm equipment
- Able to perform general maintenance and troubleshoot problems
- Previous farming, livestock, equipment, or mechanical experience is preferred
- Valid driver’s license required
- CDL is preferred but not required
Additional CDL Opportunities
Verhey Swine Farms also operates a livestock trucking business. Applicants with a CDL who are interested in earning additional income outside of their regular farm responsibilities may have opportunities to haul livestock.
Livestock hauling is not required for the farm hand position.
