Shift: Monday - Wednesday - 7:00 am-7:00 pm
Starting Salary: $21.50/hr
Verde Valley Sanctuary is seeking a passionate survivor advocate who thrives in direct service and wants to support survivors of domestic and sexual violence within the Resident Services Department. Working closely with the Resident Services Director, the Shelter Advocate is an essential support to the emergency shelter program and will provide trauma-informed support services to survivors of domestic and sexual violence. JOB SUMMARY
The Shelter Advocate is responsible for providing comprehensive trauma-informed advocacy services for survivors of domestic and sexual violence through Verde Valley Sanctuary’s Resident Services Department. The goal of this position is to provide trauma-informed supportive services to survivors residing in Verde Valley Sanctuary’s emergency shelter through advocacy, education, case management, safety planning, and referrals in order to improve the safety, quality of life and resiliency in survivors who receive services from Verde Valley Sanctuary. This position is expected to model and uphold Verde Valley Sanctuary’s mission and vision.
WHAT YOU'LL DO:
- Provide trauma-informed support services to survivors of domestic and sexual violence in Verde Valley Sanctuary’s emergency shelter.
- Provides culturally relevant services to all survivors and their families, including women, men, children, LGBTQ , and survivors of diverse ethnic, racial, and cultural backgrounds.
- Be a passionate advocate for Verde Valley Sanctuary’s mission and vision.
QUALIFICATIONS
REQUIRED
- Any combination of education and/or experience equivalent to an associate’s degree in social work, women and gender studies, social justice, counseling, or a related field.
- Direct experience in the areas of domestic violence, sexual assault, victim services, and/or homelessness is a plus.
- Valid Arizona State ID, or a valid driver’s license and insurance.
- Currently possess, or ability to successfully obtain Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance**
- CPR/1st Aid Certified. *
- Negative TB test is required. *
*If necessary, Verde Valley Sanctuary will complete these areas of qualification during the onboarding process.
PREFERRED
- Bachelor’s degree in social work, women and gender studies, social justice, counseling, or a related field.
- Two or more years of experience working with survivors of domestic violence and/or sexual assault.
- Bilingual English/Spanish.
