Shelter Supervisor

POSITION SUMMARY:

In this role, the Shelter Supervisor will support the Director of Shelter Services with supervision and scheduling of care coordinator staff. They will provide support with the daily operations of Shelter Services, helping maintain compliance with all New York State and local regulations. The Shelter Supervisor will ensure a safe, comfortable, and welcoming environment for all shelter residents and visitors. This position will manage difficult and/or emotional client situations, using a trauma informed care approach to promptly provide crisis intervention, short-term counseling, and emotional support to shelter residents and their families. 


The shift available is as follows:

  • Mon-Fri 11:30am-7:30pm


PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist the Director of Shelter Service with staffing and supervision of care coordinators, including training, performance management and conflict resolution.
  • Provide support with the daily operations of Shelter Services. 
  • Assist with budgeting and inventory management.
  • Maintain accurate records and reporting following Vera House guidelines. 
  • Communicate needs and concerns to the appropriate shelter staff and/or community partners regarding the goals and plans of the residents. 
  • Respond to the crisis line and help with managing callouts if support is needed.
  • Ensure all services are maintained in accordance with the Agency’s mission and goals. 
  • Serve as a liaison and build positive working relationships with community partners.
  • Maintain strong professional boundaries, limited to the extent of professional relationships, ensuring compliance, ethical and appropriate interactions. 
  • Other duties as assigned.


EDUCATION, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, human services, or related field OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum 2-4 years' experience in human services/lived experience, or the ability to be trained.
  • Knowledge of domestic and sexual violence including elder abuse and ability to develop positive, compassionate relationships with victims/ survivors through trauma informed approach.
  • Knowledge of community-based service delivery systems, in particular knowledge of local housing systems such as Section 8, supportive and transitional living services.
  • Strong interpersonal, oral communication and written skills.
  • Proficient planning, organizational, time management, and administrative skills.
  • Strong conflict resolution skills with both internal and external contacts.
  • Adaptability to be flexible and change priorities as needed.
  • Must possess a valid New York State Driver’s License and have access to a reliable vehicle for travel throughout the area and to transport clients in the company vehicle. 
  • Completion of a satisfactory background check. 


SALARY RANGE:

$25.00-$27.00 hourly (non-exempt)
