Job Summary:
Join Vera to help define the future of physical AI training data. As Head of Robotics, you will work at the intersection of robotics R&D knowledge and commercial product strategy, shaping how egocentric video data is captured, structured, annotated, and delivered to the labs building the world's most advanced robotic systems. This is a ground-floor opportunity to work directly with Vera's co-founders and CEO, with meaningful equity and outsized influence over both product and company direction.
What You'll Do:
- Define Vera's data capture and annotation strategy to translate how frontier labs train VLA, VLM, and imitation learning models into specifications for what we collect, how we structure it, and how we annotate it.
- Serve as Vera's technical authority in buyer conversations, holding peer-level discussions with ML engineers and roboticists at humanoid manufacturers, frontier AI labs, and hyperscalers to understand their training data requirements.
- Own pilot test outcomes, anticipating buyer evaluation criteria, ensuring our data passes technical review, and iterating quickly on feedback from engineering teams.
- Evaluate Vera's datasets for diversity, coverage, scalability, and training impact relative to what leading physical AI teams actually need.
- Stay current on the full physical AI training landscape (teleoperation, sim-to-real, synthetic data, sensor fusion, egocentric learning, etc.) and integrate best practices into Vera's capture protocols and product roadmap.
- Leverage your network across the robotics and physical AI ecosystem to open doors, accelerate partnerships, and build Vera's presence as the trusted data layer for the field.
- Represent Vera externally at conferences, on panels, and in technical writing as a credible voice at the intersection of egocentric video and physical AI training.
What You Bring:
- 5–10 years in robotics R&D, embodied AI research, or applied robotics engineering.
- Deep familiarity with physical AI training pipelines: VLA, VLM, imitation learning, teleoperation, egocentric video, and large-scale data collection methodologies.
- Strong understanding of multimodal data schemas relevant to robot learning: RGB, depth, IMU, pose, language annotation, and task structure.
- Sufficient technical credibility to hold substantive conversations with ML researchers and roboticists who are evaluating training data for production model training.
- An existing network in the robotics and physical AI space including people at the labs and companies Vera sells to who will take your call.
- Excellent communicator who is able to translate deeply technical requirements into product decisions and communicate Vera's data value clearly to engineering audiences.
- Degree in Robotics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
Bonus Points:
- Prior experience at a top robotics or physical AI company: humanoid manufacturers, frontier AI labs, or hyperscaler robotics teams.
- Hands-on experience with embodied AI datasets, imitation learning pipelines, or sim-to-real workflows.
- PhD or MS from a top robotics or ML program.
- Existing thought leadership in the field: publications, conference talks, open-source contributions, or recognized standing in the robotics community.
Compensation & Benefits
The national pay range for this full-time position is a base salary of $180,000 – $320,000 USD. All employees are eligible for equity compensation. As an early team member reporting directly to the CEO and cofounders, equity represents a meaningful ownership stake in a VC-backed company at an early inflection point.
